This masterpiece by the great artist Steve Huston looks like a painting in water, capable of suspending his subjects in space and time, which thrill with vivid moments of figurative dynamism and give the observer the sensation of being able to literally swim in his brush strokes full of life...

We do judge books by their covers. Illustrations spark young imaginations, solve problems, present information - and shape our world, says the children’s author on National Illustration Day

I finished reading @jesselonergan.bsky.social‘s new GN, Drome today. Mindbending experimentation in the art and a thought provoking sci-fi story, it’s a must have.
The movement though the drawings, panels, and trajectory lines, the colours. 35 panel pages with gutters used to create depth.
Unique!

Indicator/Powerhouse Films did an excellent restoration and blu-ray release of this and Santo vs. The Infernal Men (shot at the same time in Cuba) with the original Spanish language soundtracks. Probably the best release of any Santos films thus far.

So stoked to see Sisu: Road to Revenge this week. The original is an all-time action and Nazi killin‘ favorite for me, so getting another big swing form this team is insanely exciting.
#Watched Sisu: Road to Revenge (2025) - Sisu is back, baby, and this time he turns his gory attentions from Nazis to the next group of murderous authoritarians in line, commies. (yes, I’m fully aware that his name isn’t Sisu but goddamned if I’m going to check what it actually is, fuck right off) /1

Recently picked up the @criterion.bsky.social 4k and can't wait to watch it.

Paper Moon and What's Up, Doc? are two of my all-time favorites - and for that matter, almost any Bogdonavich interview.
Paper Moon (1973) Directed by Peter Bogdanovich starring Ryan O'Neal, Tatum O'Neal and Madeline Kahn.

We lived in a pub when I was growing up and when I was 3 (50 years ago!) we had someone in to draw the pub for a business card. I sat next to him and watched him draw every line. I was transfixed and it was a huge inspiration for me. I’ve dreamt about owning that drawing for years…
