I was pretty damn healthy, and COVID nearly killed me. Also left me with the brain fog that knocked me out of Law School for the foreseeable.

If I hadn't been vaccinated, I'd be significantly less vocal on here. (I'll leave that to each of you if that's a good thing or not).
If you don't care about disabled and chronically ill people, you're an asshole.

And furthermore, no one is immune from becoming disabled or chronically ill, especially if they catch COVID. That includes you.

WEAR A MASK & GET YOUR VAX.

Masking in public, especially when you're indoors or around a lot of people outdoors (such as at a concert/protest or other crowded event), is a really easy way to 1) show solidarity with disabled and chronically ill people and 2) not get anyone sick.

COVID is still here and still dangerous.

Rebecca Heineman was cool AF and it sucks that the last weeks of her life were so awful. If you don’t know her/her work, check out the docuseries High Score, read her webcomic, or play some of her many games. She was an icon.

Today, Paste Magazine shuttered all its non-music verticals, a choice I am both professionally and personally heartbroken about. Sadly, I am once again looking for a place that wants to let me write about Books and TV on the regular, so hit me up if that’s you or anyone you know.

In 2022, I commissioned @mollycrabapple.bsky.social to make a portrait of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social, as part of a series for the release of The Viral Underclass. Molly signed if for her. Alice was so excited to have a Molly Crabapple of herself!

What a privilege it is to be a younger disabled person in a community shaped by Alice Wong. Rest in peace, Alice.

I’ll have more to say when the sun’s up -

Death & grief are intimate companions you have as a disabled person.

The older I get, the truer that is.

My emotions went from celebrating a wonderful night out at the concert to learning of Alice’s transition & being winded.

The world is worse without Alice is Wong. It’s worse without Patty Berne. It’s worse without Tinu. The last year has been so full of mourning for the disabled ancestors who paved the way for us to exist with some semblance of access, with some semblance of respect.

I hope they all rest easy. ❤️

I am heartbroken to lose yet another person that helped me be the person I am today.

When I was struggling immensely about 4 years ago, Alice Wong commissioned me to make a "Suck It Ableism" pin. I'll never forget her kindness and understanding. And the opportunity to work with her.

You were incredible, Alice Wong, and it was a blessing to have collaborated with you on projects, to have read your words and to have heard your voice, as full of life and passion and joy and rage as it was.

You made a difference—so much of a difference.

Rest always in peace, and always in power.

Laughing rereading Alice threatening to come back as “a petty ghost to haunt all [her] nemeses and mess up their shit.”

When she set her mind to something, ESPECIALLY if it would be hilarious, Alice could accomplish anything. Her petty paranormal perturbations would be EPIC.

i can’t believe @sfdirewolf.bsky.social is gone. she was a force of nature. she lived twice as much as the next person, as proven by the fact that every other person i follow, across wildly different industries, knew her, and is posting about her tonight. what a loss. i don’t know what else to say.

In the last chapter of Alice’s memoir, “Year of the Tiger,” she wrote her own future obituary.

The wonderful “oracle, storyteller, cyborg, trouble-maker, activist, night owl” we loved so much closed it with:

“Enjoy all of Alice’s good shit, and may you create some good shit as well.”

Glad I got to become disabled in a world that already had Alice Wong @sfdirewolf.bsky.social in it. I learned so much from her incredible writing & activism. May her memory be a blessing, & may we all continue her work.

And I have a flat tire. Please, if anyone needs art done for them, consider hiring me.
Hey, I'm going to be honest, I've had some rotten luck these last couple months. About three different projects got cancelled, so, if you need covers, pages, posters, album art, and you like my style, please consider hiring me.
