David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

yes this timeline is a rough route. yes there are waves of strife. but behind it all lies the inertia of all things which prompted fish to trot out of the ocean and humans to gather in commune. we are driven to fill the nothing with ourselves, with LOVE. its the unconquerable wind behind our sails

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

One of my biggest struggles being chronically ill is trying to handle that feeling of rushing through time, because I have so little of it to do the things I want. My daily hours are a fraction of an abled person’s, so it’s always a game of prioritizing essentials, then trying to squeeze in fun.

As much as folks might not want to believe it, artists who sell their work cannot survive exclusively on platforms that cater to primarily other artists. The Circulating The Same Five Dollars™️ model can't feed us or pay bills for long. We need places where we can be seen and discovered.

"Hey, it's the witching hour somewhere," I say, downing a glowing potion that transmogrifies me into a tall toad in a stovepipe hat.

I'm starting my own drawing challenge this month. It's called #October, and every day I'm gonna try to draw an octopus. It'll be a fun way to draw something that isn't human-shaped, or even a vertebrate. You're welcome to join me if you'd like. Here's Day 1:
An octopus sitting between some rocks and kelp.

as a grumpy Gen Xer: every injustice facing Gen Z was also true for us. we just didn’t have anyone else who would listen to us. you know who listens to Gen Z about the older generations holding onto money and power at the expense of their own fucking children? WE DO. Because WE KNOW.
