Passchendaele was the turning point for the UK, and almost every bad thing that's happened to the UK since then can be traced back to throwing away the lives of ~ 200,000+ young men in a pit of mud.
We should start up some good WWII discourse.

Maybe WWI even.

Does anyone have an easy reference guide for how to explain "Tidy Data" to data engineers?

Lots of over-engineered (wide) tables that cost time & money to build, only for my team to immediately turn around & undo all their joins / curation because it gets in the way of analysis!

The same amount? So ~ none?

The sad reality is public sector unions have fought QI reform at every level. Colorado's state reform could only get police reform across the line, not others.

To my knowledge, one (1!) state (New Mexico) ended state QI (capped civil liability at $2M) back in 2021.
It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

After subjecting myself to another year's "IT Security Training", I figured I might as well get ahead of some password resets.

Error: your password has a forbidden string. ____ is not allowed in passwords.

The offending phrase: My company name? A vulgarity? Something political? No!

It was "bird"

If my career in data analysis implodes, maybe I have a future in stuffed toy fashion design?

The 5 year old was a difficult client to satisfy, but she finally agreed that I did my best (not that my best is any good)!

I am once again reminding you that complexity is a subsidy for large, existing players. You know who doesn't care? Walmart. Costco. Meijer. Etc.

Please don't forget this lesson when you're the guys in charge of this stuff, *I beg you*
This is effectively a large tax on any store that accepts EBT cards and will make many households’ SNAP benefits unusable.
RFK Jr: "One of the things we're doing is Brooke Rollins is requiring that any facility, and store that accepts food stamps will have to double the amount of whole food that is now available to recipients. So that will change the marketplace around the country."

Was it a worse loss than 2014 NFCCG? No, but that was absolutely gutting.

Completely embarrassing loss.

The Eardrum-Stabber 6000 is meant for removing nail polish, obviously.
Isn't this just the Q-Tip strategy?

Sell a product whose primary use is super dangerous, but wink at your customers to use it for every *other* purpose other than the harmful one.

The more I think about this the more mad I get.

This was a GA Supreme Court case, but consider the prior state licensing scheme for lactation consultants. What this did was protect existing interests from competition by new entrants. Classic "concentrated benefits, diffuse costs" stuff.

Then? Ocarina of Time

Now? StarCraft

OoT is great, but it doesn't hold up as well because early 3d games did weird things before the industry standardized things like camera controls, etc.

StarCraft is fantastic, even though Blizzard *eventually* crapped the bed like they do.
Quote this with your favourite game from 1998 NOW, and what your favourite was THEN (if you had one)

Localisations/expansions count, remasters/ports don't. Remakes depend.

Two-way ties count.

Watched on this recommendation.

It's good! The way tone is balanced stands out the most.

Happy to wait for season 2.
Delicious in Dungeon is one of my favorite series.

It's perfectly ridiculous👌🏼

The (delightful) alternative being: here is a fully available github, online since the preprint was submitted, including the commits where we accidentally nuked the whole analysis, and a quarto file that explains our rationale throughout the experiment design.

As a non-academic, these cultures fascinate me:

Academic 1: Omg someone asked for my slides & I'd rather die than share them

Academic 2: just posted all my slides & notes. Lecture videos, too, but I had bronchitis all year so they're not great. Email me and I'll clarify what I said in btw coughs!

I'm not looking forward to the "technically this wasn't regime change! He keeps his promises!" buffoonery that -- guaranteed -- will get rolled out at some point.
Trump also just threw the Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner MC Machado under the bus. She is not going to get power.
Trump seems much keener on working with the Maduro holdovers.
