These very true words from Steve Hely have given me tremendous comfort over the years.

Writing a novel— actually picking the words and filling in paragraphs— is a tremendous pain in the ass. Now that TV’s so good and the Internet is an endless forest of distraction, it’s damn near impossible. That should be taken into account when ranking the all-time greats. Somebody like Charles Dickens, for example, who had nothing better to do except eat mutton and attend public hangings, should get very little credit.

Oh dear you've just reawakened a habit I had for about a year a couple of years ago of ending all my in person conversations were a really enthusiastic and urgent "okay bye!"

I was watching the footage. Really impressed with them, and with the protesters who were there all day. It's a real shame that after how well the State Troopers responded to the procession they then used such unnecessary force against the protesters later in the day.

A shame to see the State Troopers take completely unnecessary action against the peaceful protesters who were also there a little later in the day. Pretty sure that's the opposite of what the governor has been saying they would do for the last couple of weeks.

We should regard online content these days with the same sort of critical eye as the articles we read: who made this? Where did it come from? Does the account have a motive for pushing this narrative? Is there obvious and trustworthy sourcing? & yes, the visual stuff that help us decide if its fake

Mel, people don’t even do that on here. There are bots on here that post stolen content and run fake news sites (like All Chronology and others).
Across demographic lines, many people will read/repost what fits their biases without much thought.
