Today.
Still around 100 community reports of ICE activity around the Twin Cities today, the most of any state by far.

In case you’re wondering why so many of us aren’t quite taking Homan’s presser today at face value.

One effect of the last two months I hope becomes permanent is that white Minnesotans — who blithely accept that Somali, Hmong, Latinx, and other immigrant communities share this space, but don't really engage with them — start to really see how rich this community can be when everyone is valued.

It's going to take years to untangle the blatant politicization of agencies meant to protect the well-being of Americans from the whims of the wealthy.

Friends, I look forward to the day when most of my posts are not about the occupation.

I long for getting back to sandwich updates, posting jokes that only two people will get, and being generally silly online.

I want that tiny glow to be the light at the end of this dark tunnel.

This was from this morning.

Stay vigilant, friends.
Someone was abducted at 10 AM by ICE on Central Ave. Their coworker says they’ve lived here for over 20 years, are documented, and have 3 kids who were born here.

Don’t be fooled by headlines when they’ve been lying to us the whole time. We still need you out patrolling until every agent is gone.

In non-Minnesotan news today, kinda shocking to see two Premiere League sackings in one day. Both the Spurs and Forest are just above relegation, so I have some sympathy for any manager stepping into either of those openings.

If you aren't from Minnesota, don't listen to what the media is telling you, listen to what people who live here are saying.

Damn, I'm sad to see this. This wasn't too far from where I worked and it was such a cool vibe. I'm going to miss this place.
Groundswell was an absolute gem, the spiritual hub of Hamline-Midway. They will be sorely missed.

Bring home our neighbors
Abolish ICE
Prosecute ICE
The immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota is ending, said Tom Homan, the border czar for President Donald Trump.

“I have proposed, and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operation conclude,” Homan said.

Homan addressed reporters Thursday morning at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, the base for the ongoing federal immigration operation in Minnesota.

Once, just *once*, I would like to see Democrat leadership be bold. Demand actual change. Make *them* move.

Being "exceedingly reasonable" is how we got the nightmare we're currently in.
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.

"Deep hurting... DEEP HURTING!"

"He tried to kill me with a forklift. Ole!"

"Sampo!"
Does anyone else have an MST3K line they use regularly, even if it makes no sense out of context?

Because I have both "That'll keep your panfish down for a while." and "Come come, boys, we must confound Jerry at every turn!" from MST3K the movie alone.

My thought is that he doesn't want to call this a civil disturbance because it could give a flimsy pretext to call in the military, not just the national guard.

HOWEVER, there must surely be a way to call an eviction moratorium in a creative way that doesn't give the feds that particular opening.
Axios reports @governorwalz.mn.gov won’t call an eviction moratorium because it is “legally fraught” yet the definition sure sounds like one. www.mprnews.org/story/2023/0...

This isn't a fucking contest between which place was more violent.

This whole thread is frustrating to read. It feels like she's just bored and burning local bridges on her way home. If *she* didn't see ICE agents, then there surely can't be I've 2000 in the state. /s
For context, Chicago was for more violent for its duration than Minnesota is right now, and I think national media cared for about 18 hours bc it was a slow day. It’s not feasible to have people driving around for 12 hours a day and only getting a protester or two arrested once a week.

Really good thread about the state of journalism in Minnesota. Worth reading the whole thing.
My friends at Niemanreports.org asked me to write about the experience of being a journalist on the ground in Minneapolis right now. I knew I wanted to tell reporters elsewhere how even this most hopeless of times has been clarifying and, in some ways, energizing. (1) share.google/ms1wKDQZmgep...
