"With fervency I spoke of that new world, blessed with plenty, purified by justice and sweetened by brotherly kindness, the world of which I had indeed but dreamed, but which might so easily be made real." - E. Bellamy

Let’s defeat the oxymoron “academic courage.” - Ilan Pappè
It’s pure power politics and the choices are stark - accommodate them & degrade yourself or seek to organize greater power & face attacks.

Over at the old place, I kept an updated thread of the guerrilla memorials to Michele Robey, always mounted to an electrical box near the site of her murder police (Irving Park & Western, Chicago).

I hadn’t seen one in a while, but this is new.

What is a “public artist”?

Maybe I’ve just never heard of any private artists because they’re…very private?
This is the logical and inevitable conclusion of the last decade of elite media "free speech" discourse.

If I had to act nose-to-nose with Glen Close doing a death scene, I would also cry tears of anxiety.

(Highly enjoyable flick, even if it wasn’t quite Catholic.)

Very funny to see Alito complain about the court skipping full briefing and oral arguments for a quick shadow docket decision when he has signed onto innumerable orders that pull the exact same tricks and rebuked colleagues who complain about it ... www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

It begins with a "you may recall" summary of the deportation to el Salvador. Describes the admin's claim that it could deport the men without due process

this is an amazing thread

research is the creative process of asking questions, doing the diligence, talking to people, testing out ideas, asking more questions, analyzing and writing, asking more questions

it's an absurd and glorious process 🏵️
I do think this is true. I'm often guilty myself of underplaying what the work I do looks like or how much time and effort it takes. Research isn't 'just reading' or a question of sucking up summaries others have created. It's knowledge creation.

So let me go through the process with an example 1/
What historians (and other scholars do) is create knowledge. We should use that phrase more and talk about what it means. I think we don't, and it's part of why AI enthusiasts are confused when we don't readily agree that our work can be replicated/replaced by their products.

For 6 years my teacher candidates & I have studied CPS' "Reparations Won" curriculum & the history behind it. And every year I have to say, the unit summative asks kids to design a memorial, which will have to change when the city finally does what it promised to do. One step closer.
Chicago Torture Justice Memorial to be built in Washington Park • The TRiiBE
The long-awaited memorial will pay tribute to survivors and victims of police torture at the hands of the Chicago Police Department. Groundbreaking is expected in Spring 2026.

For those following along at home…

The House of Delegates passed the legal defense fund for NCSS members. There’s an existing fund with monies in it.

It’s on the Board to design the program for implementation.
1. Restarting the NCSS legal defense fund for members.

2. Calling on NCSS to publish a position statement in support of K12 ethnic studies programs.

Contact your state and/or interest group delegates & ask them to support CUFA’s efforts to strengthen our field.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

This is good: Rep Eric Swalwell tells me House Dems are now discussing making an end to mask-wearing a precondition for ICE funding.

"When we are in the majority, the masks are coming off," he says.

This is the next frontier in anti-Trump resistance.
