Hey everyone and happy #PortfolioDay! All of my most recent work is under NDA and not shareable, but I’d love to show my animation portfolio! I’m a character animator with some additional experience in rigging and previsualization.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

The Street was a lot smarter when it used to recognize that less employment was bad, actually.
The markets are staying afloat right now on the hope that AI will destroy American workers. What a bleak thing.

IMO, it raises the question of how useful are executives?
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

IMO the weird exception some supposed leftists seem to make for condemning-the-theft-of-labor-except-art-lol-steal-that-shit is just a weird intersection with puritan "if you enjoy yourself, it's not a real job" brainworms.

"fun" job = member of the leisure class (ROFL) = fair game. Somehow.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

And doctors are still paid as the result of daily LABOR.

They're WORKERS.

They're rich. But they're not The Rich.

This is not a high hurdle to get over, but I see people fall over it every day.

If you're equating doctors with Elon Musk, you are 100% not ready to be having these conversations.
doctor who makes 200K annual is VERY comfortable. That’s not wealth hoarding though lol

It’s Facebook and Amazon paying no taxes for the last decade, its being allowed to take out loans on unrealized gains in the hundreds of millions, capital gains tax lower than the tax rate of ppl who make 55k

Part of what we lost when newsrooms shifted from dedicated beat reporters to freelancers is the ability to push back/question.

News sites uncritically reprint marketing and propaganda, lending it authority it doesn't deserve and actively contributing to misinformation.

As with Elon, so with Sam.

If you're new to cooking or don't trust yourself to recognize a bad AI recipe, for the love on god, do not just use random recipes from random profiles. Find trustworthy sites and creators (Serious Eats, NYT Cooking, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, Alton Brown) and search their archives for what you need.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.
