if there’s an athlete with a bunch of MAGA shit on their social media, sure, root for someone else - but most of the athletes are awesome worth rooting for

Chloe Kim is the daughter of an immigrant and turned down a WH invite in Trump 1

my girl Lee Kiefer is a reproductive justice advocate
I get this, but here's where I'm at:

Trump & Vance are the worst of us. America is bigger than them, and they win if we let them define us.
Team USA is the best of us. It's filled with Americans MAGA hates—first-generation + immigrants, LGBTQ+ athletes, people of color—& I'm gonna root for them.
I really really want these athletes to have a great experience, be competitive and perhaps win a gold medal, but, honestly, the thought of hearing "USA!USA!USA!" during their games kinda makes me cringe. If we were any other country the IOC would ask us to march under the olympic flag.

👀 Apparently, Ross Douthat invited Seth Harp to debate him on Douthat's "Interesting Times" NYT podcast. Harp says that the episode was recorded, Douthat got crushed, and RD/NYT decided not to publish it.

Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left.

It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

I can't think of any way to say this that won't sound condescending but "I'm so mad at Dems for not standing up to fascists" and pledging not to vote and let the fascists hold power is not standing up to fascism. No one is making you vote for the "establishment" candidate but what's the plan then?
February 5, 2026 at 9:17 PM
This is fine and good but have a plan. "We're not gonna vote for the Dems we don't like" isn't a plan. Unless the plan is more of the same.

"Jobs and economy" was the #1 exit polling issue for voters in 2024, and while there were major issues brought about by systemic late-stage capitalism, overall the numbers were solid within the current paradigm. They're a shitshow now, but even though Trump's unpopular, not any more so than Biden 1/

Now Reagan.. it's a bit more complicated. He set this all in motion but I really think he was stupid enough to believe his supply-side trickle down bullshit would ultimately lift everyone up. He did some shit that was truly evil, don't get me wrong, but he genuinely believed communism was a scourge
Oh I hated W. It's just not as visceral. I didn't think W was evil, just an elitist bloodthirsty moron. Plenty of hate. But he's not evil incarnate like Orange Shitler.

Ehh on second thought W was and is pretty detestable. Trump is just at another level.
I never really hated anyone until dumbass trump came along.

And the Republican Party runs the country. Every branch and department. That's why I have to laugh when people are like "why aren't they all being arrested??"

They're not gonna arrest themselves guys.
So Pedophiles run the Republican party.

Amazing. If a professional wrestling crowd is chanting "fuck ICE," it suggests to me that large swaths of the culture are not just upset over ICE tactics, they're coalescing against mass deportations as a broader ideological project.

44,000 people need to sue for $10 billion each. bsky.app/profile/atru...
GALLEGO: Let's say Trump wins that lawsuit. Where would that $10 billion come from?

BESSENT: It would come from Treasury

GALLEGO: So, taxpayers?

BESSENT: Yes. Part of the 44,000 whose returns were leaked

GALLEGO: They're not suing

can someone ask the esteemed Senator from Missouri exactly what he means by real Americans

seriously, please explain this to me, a black woman, in plain English
Sen. Eric Schmitt: "We front-loaded tens of billion of dollars for deportation efforts. There have been 200,000 people who have applied to be ICE agents in this country, so what you see is a groundswell of support among real Americans."

Of course, he’s got no intention of “winning” it. He’ll direct the IRS to settle before going to trial, and just award him the money.

He might as well be ordering them to empty Fort Knox into Perv-A-Lago.
BESSENT SAYS IF TRUMP WINS IRS SUIT, $10B WOULD COME FROM TAXPAYERS

I get going after Noem and she's detestable but the next goon will be following the same orders.
Sen. Mark Kelly: "Right now they need to get out of Minneapolis & really reevaluate what this agency agency should be. Kristi Noem needs to be fired, by the way. That's a good starting point here. And the senior leadership there, the ones who have implemented these policies, these people need to go"

Why is anyone baffled at this point. It's like these mainstream media types are expecting to walk in and interview a normal ass president but are somehow surprised he's really a demented psychopath.
I swear this clip is not edited. Trump pivots from downplaying the killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti ("two people out of tens of thousands and you get bad publicity") to in the very next breath claiming "we've been very tough on the waters," leaving Tom Llamas baffled ("the waters?")
February 5, 2026 at 4:51 PM
True, but it's a real epidemic among the rich and powerful.
A lot of people are rightfully outraged that famous, important people continued to hang out with Jeff Epstein after he was convicted of serious sex crimes. I would posit, though, that 'maintaining social and business relationships with sex criminals' is extremely common behavior, regardless of class
