Rachel Reeves' Budget was a damp squib, delivering austerity by stealth. There was no vision, and no investment. There was just fear of the City of London. In this video, I ask why the Chancellor has surrendered economic power to finance. youtu.be/6pTpT_uB_4M?...

Big move in the budget to lower energy bills by £1bn a year - by scrapping the energy efficiency tax. It’s welcome. But it comes in the same month that a new tax was added to our energy bills - a nuclear tax to pay for Sizewell C - and it’s also £1bn. Kinda standing still aren’t we..:)

Labour peer Lord Alf Dubs, a former child refugee, has said that the home secretary is seeking to “use children as a weapon”.
How new asylum policies will affect child refugees
Child refugees could live their entire childhoods in Britain with no guarantee that they will remain in the place they have come to think of as home.

According to local Syrian media, the IDF which occupies all of Palestine, much of southern Lebanon, and huge swathes of southwestern Syria, attempted to arrest a Syrian civilian tonight in Beit Jinn but was met with resistance from the locals, and in turn the IDF killed two people via airstrike.
Deleted last post because the battle in Beit Jinn is apparently still ongoing

The British Empire was the largest empire that ever existed. At its zenith it controlled 1/4 of the world’s population and landmass. This achievement was built upon systematic violence.

I guess 'British exceptionalism' arose from the misconception that the British were somehow special b/c of this.

Or that he's the PM, apparently. Like, not to state the obvious dude, but you have a pretty big platform to do something about this shit.

This really needs emphasizing. The entirety of the UK media ecosystem is utterly fixated on a 100% fabricated "crisis".
Net migration has fallen again to 204,000, the lowest level since 2021 and is forecast to continue falling over the coming years.

Not that you would know it from the endless coverage of Britain's supposed "immigration crisis"

The 50 wealthiest families own more wealth than the bottom 50% of the population.

How can this Labour Government say this is a "cost of living" budget and refuse to tax the rich?

They care about protecting power and wealth. And cost of living is a buzz phrase for them. Dire.

If you have an internet connection to download a pirated book, you can use that internet connection to borrow from a library collection.

Libraries pay authors, pirate sites don’t, and the cost to you is the same.
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!
