Episcopalian, socialist, dad. I like trains, bicycles, video games, and sharing. In a former life I did sound design for video games, but now I have a dumb email job with health insurance. Don't tell my boss when you see that I'm not working. Living in WA

It's hard to overstate how much the wealthy and the powerful hate Liberation Theology. Noam Chomsky gives a pretty great summary of its in place in the world in about 6 minutes:

"'I am convinced that the preferential choice for the poor is a source of extraordinary renewal both for the Church and for society,' the pope wrote, echoing the language of Latin American liberation theologians who coined the term "preferential option for the poor."
Pope Leo blasts elitism, indifference toward poor in first major document
"I am convinced that the preferential choice for the poor is a source of extraordinary renewal both for the church and for society," the pope wrote in Dilexi Te.

By me this week - the happiest thing I've got to report of late, with a glorious trip over the summer to Montreal

"I don't want to use the word weapons..."

lmao. that's more self-awareness than any other president, tbh. not that this guy cares, but other presidents just pretend that Jesus loves the military and killing people

My ideal future is that someone steals all the cars. All of them. And now our massive road infrastructure has nothing better to do than to accomodate busses and bicycles.
troysnoise.bsky.social
I mean, sure, that is an annoying problem.
Have you see the safety issues cars are causing, tho??

I'm a city person. I really really want to live in Seattle. But I can't make the math work out with kids. It's honestly depressing

Expensive housing means expensive childcare, too. The childcare workers have bills to pay. At some point, it makes more sense for one parent to stay home rather than try to make enough money to pay for day care.

And at that point, you have to ask why you are living in a place that's so expensive
troysnoise.bsky.social
There are lots of 1 and 2 bedrooms apartments in Seattle. A lot few 3 bedrooms. 4+? Forget about it. At that point, you have to be able to afford a big house (plus yard for some reason), and at Seattle housing prices. It's nuts

SimCity 3000 has a similar vibe and is by the same composer (Jerry Martin). It's also super good, one of my favorite game soundtracks.

the specific language of “break bread with” and “visit him in prison” is so striking to me, used in condemnation this way

DHS includes a bunch of false and defamatory statements in their tweet about Kilmar Abrego Garcia as they prepare to send him to Uganda.
DHS: With today's ruling, Kilmar Abrego Garcia's final order of removal stands.
This MS-13 gang member, human trafficker, domestic abuser, and child predator will never be loose on American streets.
His lawyers tried to fight his removal from the U.S. but one thing is certain, this Salvadoran man is not going to be able to remain in our country. He will never be allowed to prey on innocent Americans again.
Never forget the Democrats flew to a foreign land on the US taxpayer's dime to break bread with this terrorist gang member and visit him in prison. While they continue to fight for criminal illegal aliens, we will continue to put the safety of the American people FIRST.

In his closing statement, Harrell said, "This is not the time for hope. Passion and great ideas and inexperience is just not going to get us there. Trump will walk all over a person without experience, period."

Italy's largest union, with over 5.5 million workers, has called a general strike for Friday in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla.

And smaller Italian unions have said they will join CGIL's general strike.

Israel has just arrested Greta Thunberg and many others.

Statement from the Global Sumud Flotilla:

“People of conscience have been abducted. The flotilla broke no laws. What is illegal is Israel’s genocide, Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza, and Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon.”

Close to 65k watching the livefeed from the Global Sumud Flotilla off the coast of Gaza.

Israel seems to be intercepting right now.

All eyes needed.

The Super Mario 64 source code lists names for Mario's footstep sounds. The list starts off normal but becomes poetic with names like "Footsteps in the Fallen Leaves" and "More Than Anyone Else in the World". It turns out the names are actually taken from a 1994 dating simulator.

I think Washington state leaving the USA and joining Canada would be a really drastic, chaotic action.

So, uh, what's our line in the sand where WA should do it anyway?
