Related: I feel like a lot of the piracy vs buying discourse (🤢 that this is even a thing) gets framed as stealing money from individual authors vs. stealing from faceless corporate publishers when for most authors it’s about whether or not they’ll get to publish another book.

I deliberately avoided listening to the entirety of "Baby Shark". I was aware of its existence and that it entailed "Baby Shark Doo dee Doo dee Doo dee Doo", and have caught tiny snippets over the years, but never heard the entire thing until a couple of weeks ago. In hindsight, a great decision!
If we had to hear “Baby Shark” everywhere we went for two whole months out of the year we’d throw a fit, right?

And rightfully so.

So tell me, why do we put up with it when the song is “Frosty the Snowman”?

🧵Spotted at an A&P Show in Aotearoa New Zealand:

A tiny human (2?) has spotted a pen of puppies.
Studying them for a long moment, she bursts into tears.
Dad asks what's wrong and looking up at him in abject anguish she wails: "I WANT TO PAT THEM ALL!" (1)

Two small humans (3 & 6?) are pleading with Dad to take them to the bouncy castle.
Jumping up and down, circling him while skipping and roaring: "PUHLLLLLEAAAASE."
Dad's mouth twitches before he says deadpan: "Yeah. I dunno. You look too bouncy to go on a bouncy castle."
Outraged howls ensue! (4)

to me the truly disturbing thing about all the epstein shit is not so much who it comes out was part of it. it's that it is essentially something that shouldn't, conventional (among progressives too!) wisdom suggested, have been possible: an actual secret paedophile ring of the rich and powerful
