This cross-pollination IS how new ideas happen. EVERY field needs humanistic thinking, that's why they call PhDs "Doctors of Philosophy"

Day 2 of #HooklandChristmasTree decoration. We gently take the Master of Moss from box. He’s old and fragile, made from twig, clay and clumps of Moss gathered on Barrowcross. We find him a respectful place on the tree and hope he sleeps the season. His waking would be terrible

My perpetually unpopular take is we just ban competitive sports. I do not care—my care box is COMPLETELY empty—about “men’s need to compete with each other”. Men can exert some of that “superior male discipline” they’re always jawing on about on themselves for once. Play for fun. Quit when tired.

Cis women with higher levels of testosterone, a hormone that all women produce, are being bounced from their sports entirely to punish trans women who are INTENTIONALLY reducing testosterone (among other hormones). None of this makes sense scientifically

when Michael Phelps was dominating US swimming there was endless coverage of all his genetic advantages. His wingspan, the way his body processed lactic acid, on and on and on. Nobody, not one person, floated the idea of kicking him out of the sport for genetic advantages

and more than the logic—can these LLMs account for the whimsy and soul with which the zojirushi sings when rice is ready? I think not

where does my beloved zojirushi rice cooker's fuzzy logic sit? which part of the ai plum pudding chart is responsible for making perfect rice. that's the part we should be giving a trillion dollars
Im definitely oversimplifying the science, but its a subset-set relationship. A (an?) LLM is a set of machine learning decision-making algorithms

This is a chart from @colin-fraser.net

like, first of all, religious educational institutions do not play by secular academic rules to begin with but they do at least try and pretend to. even so, there is actually a method you have to follow when you’re doing any sort of “formal” theology. you cannot just quote scripture randomly

Mom is Champagne (ID #3904) and its her 2nd documented calf. What joyful news for a species with 384 whales remaining.
