Baltimore transplant, perpetually curious and often armed with stickers. I like radioactive glass, books, pigeons, street art, and found items. I dislike mosquitoes, getting stuck behind slow walkers, pears, sun in my eyes, and fascism.

Do you buy mushrooms? Windmill farm workers are calling on you to sign and share the #BoycottWindmillMushrooms petition: act.seiu.org/a/windmill_i...

This is horrible and trash, a hearing person shouldn't be teaching ASL. She can't even sign "dessert" correctly

For National Disability Employment Awareness Month at @motherjones.com, I spoke to four disabled federal workers who were laid off about how their old jobs were very accessible—and what the federal government loses out on by having fewer disabled employees. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
The human costs of Trump's war on government
For many disabled workers, federal jobs were decent, human, and accommodating: everything the president hates.

Another article that might shed more light on why I feel so strongly about Alexander Graham Bell and why he's so hated by the deaf community

(Please note this was written by a deaf historian and scholar)

See my other response... Get past your internalized audism then we'll talk

"He believed that the only way to live a full life was to speak. It was inconceivable to him that Deaf people could live rich full lives without speech. Signing was seen as inferior, partly because it was so embodied."

🙄

You and I experience the world very differently as disabled people.

You're showing your internalized audism and dismissing the history of trauma and damage Alexander Graham Bell has inflicted on the Deaf community. This link might help shed more insight on this subject.

I don't claim to speak for all deaf, but if you insist... I have deaf parents, deaf siblings, and deaf relatives. I attended deaf schools and a deaf university. I work in a deaf setting. Majority of my friends are deaf and yes, *most* of us HATE Alexander Graham Bell :)

You're allowed to disagree
uraniumkitty.bsky.social
Don't be fooled. Alexander Graham Bell was a horrible audist man who hated deaf people, he also DID NOT invent the telephone

"The most famous picture of Bell and Keller is one in which Keller is finger-spelling on Bell’s hand. It is a form of sign language. Yet he advocated to eradicate it"
uraniumkitty.bsky.social
He was obsessed with eradicating deaf people/sign language.

Oralism and Milan
1881 had devasting consequences - many deaf teachers lost jobs, deaf children deprived of education in favor of speech therapy. Deaf kids were beaten for using ASL.
The Milan Conference of 1880: When Sign Language Was Almost Destroyed
Milan 1880 was a historic event in deaf education that nearly led to the death of sign language. Read on to see how that almost came about.

French movie poster for "Lola Montes" directed by Max Ophüls, featuring a large Lola Montez in yellow, surrounded by circus performers and acrobats in blue Book cover of "Primates of Park Avenue" by Wednesday Martin.

The cover is predominantly light blue with a close-up of a woman's leg wearing black and white animal print clothing and high heels.

The title is red, the only vivid splash of color other than a small red round seal declaring the book an instant #1 New York Times Bestseller.

1/ This is so f'ing outrageous. You cannot safely restrain people on their stomachs. They're going to kill people.

This is very well known now.

ICE is hog tying protesters in Portland and removing them on Dollies.

This is dangerous and could cause serious injury.

The Department of Homeland Security thinks it’s a joke.

They’ve shared this video with the tagline “Refuse to Walk? We’ll give you a ride”.

Stay strong Portland.

The New York Times doesn't tell you why the alleged murderer said he sent pizzas to the victim's house just before he ran down the girl and her best friend. He said on video that he was getting revenge for social media comments about death of Charlie Kirk.
