one of my more esoteric game dev takes is that there's an untapped niche for turn based games that let you menu as fast as you can think in a rhythm game flow state-like manner (this is a stealth selling point for DQ HD-2D and Octopath 2).

Escape from Ever After is that but for action commands

Gotcha—let’s dig into that step by step.

1. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, because I turned you into an amorphous lump of flesh. You’re not just immobile—you’re immortal, and you feel only anguish.

2. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺. That makes total sense—it’s a natural human impulse, and you’ve been through a lot.

If you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case.

"My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.

Happy New Years!

did you know that there's a cottage industry of people that resell the expensive high end chairs when a company goes out of business?

Hey guys, bad news about my upcoming appearance on Brightsiders. On the one hand, I wish this would have happened before I got on the plane and missed my brother’s wedding. On the other hand, we don’t hold grudges in the Bright community. It’s not what Daryl and Nick would have wanted.
Sad news everyone, I’m officially pulling the plug on Brightsiders, my super fan podcast for the 2017 movie Bright. I still feel like there were many interesting topics left to discuss but after 7 years of weekly episodes I’ve learned that no one has ever listened to the show.

i think a key belief here is that "worse things aren't possible," that the bottom can't fall out, and that is a huge big if, and by acting like it can't they're increasing the chances that it does *dramatically*

UKIE doesn’t seem too pleased with payment processors in the Steam / itchio / Collective Shout situation. Sounds like they feel MasterCard & Visa are de facto questioning PEGI’s credibility

Currently on the phone with Visa

Instead of starting with a complaint, I approached this as a Confused American Consumer who doesn't understand why they can't buy things off a website they use

The call center rep immediately asked if it was about Steam/itch

Itch comms and payment handling have long left something to be desired, rather infamously so. Thus it was sadly almost guaranteed something like this would go badly, given the general pattern. You're pretty much on point.

On the other site I said Visa and Mastercard are the unwilling de facto rulers of the adult industry.

In this thread, we’ll dig into adult industry’s most exciting layer: financial plumbing! and explore weird content banned not by law, but by interpretation of card rules. 🧵

waiting to see how things shake out but this is probably the least worst move for itch to make.

finding different payment processors for adult content creators publishing things visa and mastercard banned that aren't illegal is noticeably better than steam giving them a global veto.

I'm reading the decision. Quick thread with initial, maybe insufficiently caffeinated, thoughts.

tl:dr

1: Better for AI companies than authors, but not the complete win most AI companies needed.
2: Unexpected user rights wins within the decision.
3: But far better for corporations than people.
Major decision out of the Northern District of California. AI training on copyrighted material is fair use under the copyright act. This will have major implications for the AI industry and artists having their work stolen by AI companies.
