“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

- J.R.R. Tolkien

I know we say this all the time so it’s become cliche, but can you imagine the hysteria that would be happening right now with Republicans if Obama did the exact same thing to the inside and outside of the WH that Trump is doing? It would be 24/7 on Fox for months. We all know why.

All this cruelty and ugliness because these fuckers couldn't accept a country that elected a black president.
I’m surprised he’s not struck by lightning every time he lies like this.

We couldn't find anyone among the 7 million+ No Kings attendees who says they were paid to protest. But X user @crypto4u1488 says each attendee was paid $750 by George Soros and bused in from other states. The truth may lie somewhere in between.

Every time a Democrat says something that could plausibly be construed as insulting Republican voters it is played endlessly by Corporate Media (deplorable, guns & religion, etc: you remember them decades later)

Trump literally shits on Democratic voters and Corporate Media refuses to discus it
I optimistically thought the media might focus today on how yesterday utterly refuted the claims numerous Republicans repeated last week about protests funded by shadowy donors & carried out by radical, violent, pro-Hamas, America-hating radical leftists. But no. Let’s move on, nothing to see here.
Look at the current digital home page. Not a word about the protests. It’s such an abdication of journalistic responsibility.

as far as just messaging goes that video is probably the most embarrassing thing any president has done on the world stage in my life

and the fact that the sunday shows wont even describe it? total abdication of their responsibility
There is currently nothing about the protests on the NYT digital front page. Nothing! Topics more important than 7 million Americans peacefully protesting against an authoritarian president include George Santos and a theft at the Louvre.

So disappointing, but at this point not surprising.

it is far better to be in a country with a mass visible protest movement than one without it
Today’s peaceful protests were the perfect example of what @radiofreetom.bsky.social has repeated ad nauseum (only to receive ad hominem attacks):

We are not yet living under fascism.

Many of our current leaders are fascists. But they don’t control us yet and we need to make sure they never do.

I don’t follow baseball as closely as I used to, but the single greatest game in a sport played since the 1800s is worth acknowledging. Holy cow.

Ohtani isn’t just a world class athlete, he’s historically great.

Also neat to think about how it would’ve been front page news in the 20th century.

I’ve got a nervous energy in anticipation of No Kings protests, an excitement I haven’t felt with these things before.

They’ll be big. The regime has taken notice and broken out its go-to move: blatantly lying. Media will cover it more.

This won’t be the end, of course, but something is happening.

It must really make everyone working at US Attorneys Offices around the country and DOJ, from prosecutors to staff, proud to know that you serve under an admin that has wiped out the convictions and/or sentences of every Republican convicted of a crime over the last decade.
The last stanza of Auden’s poem “September 1, 1939”beautifully captures this view.
But we can be heroes at tomorrow’s No Kings protests.
It also has a lot to do with understanding others, their concerns, and how to reach them emotionally. That then informs the style and content of the communication.
“Go into battle”? Are they shooting at you?
That song rips bark off of trees. In 1987-88 I started off each of my weekly 5am college radio shows with it.
