PLEASE DO NOT GIVE DNA TESTS AS PRESENTS.

One of my friends' ancestors died because she got poked by the price tag pin on a piece of clothing and died from the ensuing infection.

DIED. FROM A PRICE TAG.
before antibiotics did people just die all the time from everything?

For @thesicktimes.org, I looked at the state of COVID safety in live music and how artists and event producers can still protect themselves and audiences thesicktimes.org/2026/02/17/t...
These artists are making concerts safer with COVID-19 precautions - The Sick Times
While most of the music industry has moved on, COVID-conscious performers have been working to prevent their shows from being superspreaders.

This is disgusting, and dehumanizing, and unfortunately coming to damn near every platform you can think of. Multilingualism isn’t an inconvenience to be “solved” by technology. We have to push back.
Discovered today that Instagram had turned on (without my opt-in) automatic AUDIO translation of any reel that shows up in my feed not in English USING AI TO MIMIC THE SPEAKER’S VOICE and WOW it was creepy and upsetting.

You can turn it off in “Language & Translations” in Settings. 🙅🏻‍♀️

If you are wondering what words the all-male Congress found so "blasphemous" that they felt compelled to literally scrape them off the monument, they were: ''Woman, first denied a soul, then called mindless, now arisen, declared herself an entity to be reckoned.''
On this day in 1921, Congress reluctantly accepted a sculpture memorializing women’s 19th A victory. Congress relegated the memorial to the Capitol’s crypt & painted over the feminist inscription. The statue stayed entombed in the crypt for 76 years. The inscription is still not restored. #WeTheMen

I've been to this building lots of times to pick up marriage licenses (just off to the side of the row of counters in the video). Always a treat seeing everyone dressed up and happy 🩷 #genealogy
Everyone in the world comes to get married at the NYC Marriage Bureau. Last week, the Mayor stopped by to officiate a few of those ceremonies.

Thank you to all the couples who shared their joy with us. Happy Valentine's Day, New York.

I was just saying this in another thread. It feels like the level of difficulty has maybe reached a point of inefficiency:
The results remind me of the women's super G, where the course was so over-the-top difficult and dangerous, almost HALF the skiers wiped out and the only ones who finished had either skied the mountain dozens of times or skied extra carefully, and I feel like that's what we saw with men's skating.

The History Channel loves to be like “did Hitler store 10 billion dollars Nazi gold in this Pennsylvania house?” and answer that question as demonstrably “no of course not” and then make 18 seasons of “Pennsylvania Hitler House”

@nikhunder.com Could you walk me through how to access the local air quality numbers, specifically the pollen levels? I remember you said at one point it was possible to see all the levels by type (pine, birch, elm, etc) in the same table(?) as the AQI, and would love to take a look.

Hey if you want to support the Merchants House Museum (the one in this video), which is under threat from developers next door, please consider throwing them a few bucks.

Also their programs and historical lectures are awesome, you should check those out, too.
