More than 1 person dies every day on Atlanta's roads, and yet we talk so little about solutions to this crisis. Nice reporting from @ribunchreports.bsky.social here. www.ajc.com/news/2025/12...
Report: Traffic fatalities outpace homicides in metro Atlanta
Analysis draws comparison between the two, pointing out that roadway deaths should be more preventable than violence, with proven safety upgrades that can prevent them.

It is WILD to me how fast people drive on this road. I so wish GDOT would care a bit more to find ways to slow traffic down. I’ll drive the speed limit here and still feel like I am flying and yet I am STILL passed. Now just imagine someone walking on the sidewalk. Not friendly at all

I really appreciate that @pbsnews.org ended the interview with this graphic.

It captures, in the simplest and starkest terms, the brutal arithmetic driving this country's homelessness catastrophe.

I think entirely too much about how California’s climate plan explicitly says that converting to EVs is not nearly enough to meet our greenhouse gas reduction targets so we need to reduce VMT 25% by 2030, and then we do basically nothing to try to achieve that goal

Everyone's missing the point. Suburbs aren't bad. Car dependent sprawling suburbs are bad.

A lot of neighborhoods that people love were originally street car suburbs that were integrated via transit with the urban core.

Now suburbs are built far out and lock everyone into car dependency
Right, this is true, but the OVERWHELMING evidence of the past 100 years of American life is that vastly more people want space and a car than a smaller unit and a car-free lifestyle. This is mostly why the suburban share of US population has grown relentlessly for the entire 20th and 21st century
Some people put a premium on space in my experience, others put a premium on not having to have a car and not being isolated out in the suburbs

China is bringing the hammer down on hyper-fast EVs, setting a minimum 5 seconds for accelerating from 0 to 100 KMH (62 MPH).

For context, the Rivian R1S hits 60 MPH in 2.6 seconds, as does the Tesla Cybertruck in "Beast Mode." (H/t @reillybrennan.com)
China mulls limiting cars' default performance as EV crashes frequently occur
China plans to require passenger vehicles to default to a state where acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes less than five seconds upon each startup.

I've been trying to fact check some of these claims and honestly they mostly smell of BS

The Georgia limitation of 2 single site PSH projects per year seems related to a tax credit that has to be applied for.

Look if you're gonna graffiti my street could you at least make it look nice? Not asking for the mona lisa here but just put a little effort in

Also think about how it's going to look when the city makes a half assed attempt to clean it off and it just ends up looking faded.

To address safety issues (bc of drivers) my kids’ school recently changed the pick up process to get rid of the car pick up line entirely.

Caregivers have to park nearby & walk up to the blacktop to get their kids.

It’s calmer, safer, and bikes can still roll right up onto the blacktop.
