It is WILD to me how fast people drive on this road. I so wish GDOT would care a bit more to find ways to slow traffic down. I’ll drive the speed limit here and still feel like I am flying and yet I am STILL passed. Now just imagine someone walking on the sidewalk. Not friendly at all

I think entirely too much about how California’s climate plan explicitly says that converting to EVs is not nearly enough to meet our greenhouse gas reduction targets so we need to reduce VMT 25% by 2030, and then we do basically nothing to try to achieve that goal
Strategies for Achieving Success • Achieve a per capita VMT reduction of at least 25 percent below 2019 levels by 2030 and 30 percent below 2019 levels by 2045. 339 Reimagine new roadway projects that decrease VT in a way that meets community needs and reduces the need to drive. • Invest in making public transit a viable alternative to driving by increasing affordability, reliability, coverage, service frequency, and consumer experience. 340 • Implement equitable roadway pricing strategies based on local context and need, reallocating revenues to improve transit, bicycling, and other sustainable transportation choices. 341 • Expand and complete planned networks of high-quality active transportation infrastructure.342 • Channel the deployment of autonomous vehicles, ride-hailing services, and other new mobility options toward high passenger-occupancy and low VT-impact service models that complement transit and ensure equitable access for priority populations. • Streamline access to public transportation through programs such as the California Integrated Travel Project. • Ensure alignment of land use, housing, transportation, and conservation planning in adopted regional plans, such as regional transportation plans (RTP)/ sustainable communities strategies (SCS), regional housing needs assessments (RHNA), and local plans (e.g., general plans, zoning, and local transportation plans), and develop tools to support implementation of these plans. 2.1 Zero-emission vehicles are not enough to solve the climate crisis. Contrary to popular belief, zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) alone are not enough to solve the climate crisis. The 2022 Scoping Plan illustrates that despite cleaner vehicles and low-carbon fuels, the path to carbon neutrality by 2045 also depends on reducing per capita VMT (the total passenger vehicle miles driven by an average person in California on any given day). To meet the carbon neutrality goal, the Scoping Plan proposes reducing VMT from 24.6 miles per day in 2019 to 18.4 miles by 2030 (a 25 percent reduction) and to 17.2 miles per day by 2045 (a 30 percent reduction). Approximately 30 percent of light-duty vehicles on the road in 2045 will still burn fossil fuels even with all new car sales being ZEVs by 2035 through implementation of CARB's Advanced Clean Cars Il regulations.? Additionally, driving, regardless of vehicle technology, will also continue to produce particulate emissions from brake and tire wear. Everyone's missing the point. Suburbs aren't bad. Car dependent sprawling suburbs are bad.

A lot of neighborhoods that people love were originally street car suburbs that were integrated via transit with the urban core.

Now suburbs are built far out and lock everyone into car dependency

Right, this is true, but the OVERWHELMING evidence of the past 100 years of American life is that vastly more people want space and a car than a smaller unit and a car-free lifestyle. This is mostly why the suburban share of US population has grown relentlessly for the entire 20th and 21st century

China is bringing the hammer down on hyper-fast EVs, setting a minimum 5 seconds for accelerating from 0 to 100 KMH (62 MPH).

I've been trying to fact check some of these claims and honestly they mostly smell of BS

The Georgia limitation of 2 single site PSH projects per year seems related to a tax credit that has to be applied for.

Georgia Department of Community Affairs limits the entire state to only 2 single-site PSH projects per year. This 55-unit development would consume 50% of Georgia's annual statewide PSH allocation in one Kirkwood neighborhood. Why does Georgia DCA impose such strict limits? Because state housing experts recognize the operational challenges and concentration risks of large single-site PSH facilities. National housing research consistently demonstrates: Tenants in mixed-income properties (fewer than 50% PSH units) have 65% higher odds of housing retention than majority-PSH developments (Minnesota Housing Finance Agency) Federal and state agencies now recommend maximum 25 units per PSH development with mixed-income integration Scattered-site approaches show better tenant outcomes than concentrated facilities

To address safety issues (bc of drivers) my kids’ school recently changed the pick up process to get rid of the car pick up line entirely.

Caregivers have to park nearby & walk up to the blacktop to get their kids.

It’s calmer, safer, and bikes can still roll right up onto the blacktop.

The change in Atlanta city politics since I moved here is interesting — traditionally you had Mary Norwood’s (white) Buckhead vs Black southwest Atlanta but now there’s a huge progressive contingent on the east side in district 5:
