#ぷよの日
This is due to a Japanese goroawase (pun based on numbers' readings), where "2" can be read as "pu" (ぷ) and "4" as "yo" (よ), making "pu-yo" (ぷよ). On this day, social media (SNS) in Japan gets really lively with topics and posts about Puyo Puyo (the popular puzzle game series).

Periodic reminder that what's marketed as 'youth social media bans' actually amounts to requiring people to provide personally identifying information in order to access whatever content a given government disfavours.
The Australian social media age limit law has taken effect. At the time I made this post, I had not yet been age gated. Because the age gating will potentially invade my privacy to an unacceptable extent and may happen at any time, I may go quiet suddenly. If I do, this is why:
Tomorrow, 10 December 2025, the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth) s 63E(2) will take effect. It will require social media platforms to take measures to ensure that they do not host accounts belonging to Australians under 16 years old. It will require them to do so by collecting Australian users' ID.

BREAKING: Popular Japanese art commission platform Skeb announced plans to support integration with Bluesky!

which they have only posted about on twitter for some goddamn reason!! but still, cool, since this is one of the main things still binding JP artists to the platform

one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

"actually his stuff was very Derivative and not Original" like, you don't have to do this. it is good for us all to sit with the cognitive dissonance that a very bad person can make very good art. it is good for us to work through the moral ramifications of that.

Wanting to be thin isn’t a fringe perspective, nor is it edgy. It is the dominant narrative in a profoundly anti-fat culture. And in this particular moment, making media about how it’s okay to want to be thin also acts as de facto advertising for some of the wealthiest corporations in the world.

This is actually a plot point in The Count of Monte Cristo. Mercedes knows that Edmund Dantes means to harm her family because he refuses to eat or drink anything while visiting her home.
Thinking about whoever said that by accepting a meal from people and then arresting them ICE agents broke a cultural taboo that was invented by, like, the first humans to set up a tent

Fricked up my computer somehow. Won't even boot. Found an old boot USB after a frantic search. It's so old that it is also kind of broken. Used the old one to burn a new boot USB. Now backing up my files onto a third USB drive, in case I need to reinstall everything.

Also, the “gay parents are worse” claim just isn’t true. Research shows that children of same sex couples have the same outcomes as those of heterosexual couples, sometimes better outcomes. The key determinants are class, income, etc, not whether you have two moms, two dads, or a mum and a dad.
It's a real full-circle moment because rhetoric that was refined in anti-trans propaganda is now being turned around to argue against gay marriage.

Note the renewed focus on children and the deployment of "biological parents" as a more-naturalized, more 'legitimate' category.
