This is vile Islamophobia from the Councilwoman and it has no place in our city.

WOW. @haleaziz.bsky.social with a new scoop: ICE now gets a running list of every person who is going to be taking a domestic flight inside the United States from the TSA and runs it through their database looking for targets. This explains the Babson College student's arrest.

Friday news dump? I was recently laid off by McClatchy/Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I loved expanding into politics/policy reporting, and pursuing stories about communities underserved by their local paper.

Black immigrants make up 5.4% of the undocumented population in the U.S., but around 20% of immigrants facing removal. Race is a factor in immigration enforcement just as it's a factor in criminal justice—in fact, the two are related. Great piece by Naomi Bethune:

The Vulnerability of Black Immigrants - The American Prospect
Black immigrants are more likely to be deported, in part because of their contact with the criminal justice system.

🌞 My evening request is now a morning request!🌞

If you have experience with the SAVE student loan repayment program, I'd love to talk with you.

I'm at wwimbish at prospect dot org and on Signal at wwimbish.07

Are you repaying your student loans via the Biden-era SAVE program? If so, I would love to talk with you about how that program has helped you (or not), and what you'd do if you had to switch to another plan.

Pharmacist union, LETS GO!!!
“Pharmacists increasingly have less time to thoroughly examine patient profiles, catch potential drug interactions, think critically about dosing, or notice subtle discrepancies in a prescription. In many settings, there is often less than a minute to review an order before falling behind.”
I'm a CVS pharmacist. My retail pharmacy colleagues and I face a crisis
“There is often less than a minute to review an order before falling behind,” and that makes it harder to catch potential problems, a pharmacist warns.

A virtual private school that’s scammed investors is going to teach kids at an ICE detention center. It won’t fix the deplorable conditions: “It’s a prison here—it is truly a living hell,” one child said. From @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social: trib.al/jwlwJmg
For-Profit School Opening in For-Profit ICE Family Prison - The American Prospect
Stride, Inc., is hiring multiple teachers to run a new school at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley. But the establishment of a school is really an effort to sanitize the extended detention of hundreds of children.

Yet another person has died in ICE custody, this time a 48-year-old man from Pakistan who had lived in the US for decades.

ICE took Shiraz Fatehali Sachwani to the hospital last month for "low oxygen levels and tachycardia," the medical term for a heart rate over 100 beats a minute. Then he died.

In October, the AP published a story that said reporters had identified a dozen instances in the last decade where the WRAP killed people, or, in the sanitized language of the mainstream press, "played a role" in their death.

It's interesting to me that this story is drawing hate mail from a very specific type of hate mailer. They're usually from Florida, and they list their names and their contact information, including their cell phones.
New from me in @prospect.org: ICE is opening a school inside one of their concentration camps and the outfit they picked to run it is a virtual education company that's been failing students for years. Stride, aka K12, was also accused of securities fraud just a few days ago.

Dems are sounding the alarm about ACA premium increases without mentioning something:

State insurance regulators - often appointed by Dems! - have the power to reject the increases but they are approving them with no resistance & basically nobody is challenging those decisions.
