$500k home, 20% down, 30 year fixed at 7% (because there's no way you're getting that longer term for free) is $2,781.75 per month.

This is from 2023 about the Vallas/Johnson mayoral race in Chicago but it applies well to what just happened with Cuomo; you can campaign to suburbanites or ex-residents who want to hear what a hellhole the city is, or you can campaign to the actual voters who live in the city.
