Too conservative for bluesky and too pragmatic for X. Appreciate humor on both sides. Sic em Bears.
Many on the right and left seem to have more interest in who may have done something more than what was actually done.

We had congressional hearings when parents just suspected heavy metal was leading some kids to suicide.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

Who did Ukraine trust when they were originally convinced to give up their nukes?
I understand Zelenskyy wanting to do anything to end the war in Ukraine 🇺🇦. However he can’t trust trump as far as he can throw him. trump betrays his own people. He has shown he’s on the side of Russia over and over. How do you believe one shred that comes out of his mouth. I send prayers to Ukraine

Ben is basically a libertarian and I can’t agree that retirement itself is stupid.

But he’s right that 65 is too young to get social security. We can’t afford it anymore.

Medicare though needs a different solution. Raising the retirement age won’t fix why it’s expensive.

Critical thinking is the bedrock of democracy. And America's K-12 education system is failing the test
America Needs an Education Moonshot
America’s education system is in historic decline. According to the latest report card on 12th graders, students finishing high school have fewer skills and less knowledge in core academics than their predecessors a decade ago.

Unfortunately, it seems and is likely true. Probably not the “sell” price. The product is free but the “shipping and handling” is between 1 and 6 million.
If this is true, it is the most impeachable offense ever.

I thought it was reprehensible to make fun of ppl based on prior careers or looks. I remember outrage over some officials working as bartenders. It seems this rule must be transient.
Proof that there is more than one way to prostitute yourself.

Too bad.

The Somalian Medicare fraud in Minnesota is terrible, no surprise that Trump tried, despite opposition from democrats, to change things.
At least $9B billed across 14 Medicaid services in Minnesota may be fraudulent, top prosecutor says
A top prosecutor suggested on Thursday that the total amount of fraud in Minnesota could be $9 billion or more.

The Assistant U.S. Attorney investigating the Somali fraud in Minnesota says as much as $18 billion could have been stolen from the taxpayers.

He compares it to an iceberg-- "much larger than visible to the public."

All of this happened on Tim Walz's watch.

How much is it fair for you to pay? I am self employed and pay a lot more than that, you are not retiring on aca but you are certainly benefiting greatly.
Okay so I have expanded ACA subsidies for 2025. I STILL pay $699.00 a month in premiums with a $5,000 individual deductible and a $10,000 family max out-of-pocket. That's all on me, and that means I'm not "retiring on ACA." I own a business, and expanded ACA lets me buy insurance, period. 1/2

Australia is officially banning children under 16 from social media, or is it? The kids seem to have another idea
Australia’s Social Media Ban Won’t Save Kids
It’s officially D-Day in Australia. That’s deactivation day, when Canberra will boot hundreds of thousands of children under the age of 16 off social media.

Mail delivery should be one day a week in rural settings and at best m,w,f, elsewhere. Pols, especially dems, love this jobs program so it likely won’t happen. Ironically lots of schools going to 4 day school weeks to save money but we cannot shorten the days we get delivered our mostly junk mail.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Another huge issue, and I don't think people even know this is a thing, is that just about everything is done with smart phones now. And many (most?) seniors literally cannot work their phones. Signing things, texting, dealing with spam and fraud or even using the basic functions? They're often lost

I agree 100 with his sentiment but his “shipwrecked sailors” description was a bit over the top.
Himes: "What I saw in that room was one of the most troubling things I've seen in my time in public service ... any American who sees the video that I saw will see the US military attacking shipwrecked sailors."
