This. I see it at all levels.
lol only time folks wanna talk to young folks is when they have the biggest stage and biggest audience.

No desire to build legacy. No desire to equip young people to counter the bullshit. No desire to build an intergenerational movement.

Authoritarianism is a disability rights issue. Immigration is a disability rights issue. And , as we've seen throughout the escalations over the past year, disabled people are particularly vulnerable ...

ICE came for our Fucking TOY STORE?
DHS employees entered our store this afternoon and served us a Notice of Inspection, demanding copies of I9 forms for each employee.

In 27 years as shopkeepers, we have never been subjected to this type of investigation.

If this is all I had, I would NOT have gone with the story. Sources have motivation to lie/obfuscate. “Torso” is very broad. There is no supporting evidence. And there is no reason that the sources could not have been on the record.

This warms the cockles of my former-foodwriter heart. I was working for culture (the cheese magazine) when Conde Nast shuttered Gourmet. They cite Coyote and Defector in their launch statement, and I'm excited to see what a co-op can do in this space.
Condé Nast forgot to renew the trademark for Gourmet and so a group of journalists grabbed it and are relaunching the food magazine as a worker-owned co-op. Love it. [gourmetmagazine.net]

Parents of #deafkids have seen this movie before.
It targets parents, specifically. It preys on our anxieties about our children.

Where doctors and experts offer uncertainty, Big Wellness offers certainty.

More people need to be aware of how fucked up and money-hungry the industry is.

“Big Wellness” isn’t even in our lexicon. It needs to be.

Yeah, that says a lot.
Trying to put Scott Adams into historical perspective. I only met him once, and don't know if the SF Chronicle was able to get anybody who'd have called themselves his friend to go on record.

First meeting of comics club at my son's school was a blast! Him and a group of classmates met to read and discuss favorites, discover new books, and draw their own.

Super-grateful to CSD Fremont's head librarian Joanne for making this possible! #deafkids #kidscomics #library

I had the unique pleasure of working across the hall from one of the UAW organizers for UC Davis' postdocs. The superpowers went in both directions.
One of the cool things about organizing at a massive worksite like a university (or a hospital, or an advanced auto factory, or...) is that you get to meet people who have superpowers you do not understand in the slightest. Finished a walkthrough and a got a tour of the lasers.

Sometimes I think I overdo it talking about how wretchedly evil Substack is and then someone who has been following me for like 200 years asks me, "What's wrong with Substack?"

Unapologetic platforming of Nazi propaganda is what's wrong.

@gofundme.com is now crowdsourcing bounties for murdering American citizens. Hooray.
GoFundMe is allowing a fundraising campaign tied to the potential legal defense of Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good, to remain online despite what appears to be a breach of the platform’s own terms of service, prompting questions about selective enforcement.

I mean this so seriously. Please don’t read it as “doomerism”.

The phrase “personal responsibility” is eugenic rhetoric.

This is exactly how eugenicists spoke 100+ years ago. AMERICAN ones.

Books don't tell readers who they personally are or who they are supposed to be. They do show readers a variety of characters. Implicit in that is this: "Here are some ways of being." Kids books aren't altering your kid to be someone new. They are simply showing them parts of humanity.
