I would really caution anyone against implying that paywalling this feature is a legitimate response to public outcry. The paywall is an endorsement, not a restriction. Musk is saying "this thing you're all talking about is valuable. Pay me for it." The actual material effect is just monetization.

The amount of shit I got for this segment at the time was astronomical, and it was all from people who now stalk CVS employees to get them fired for insufficient online sadness.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says they've been informed by the FBI that US DOJ has said FBI will solely lead the investigation into Renee Nicole Good's killing by a federal officer. State investigators no longer have access to "case materials, scene evidence/investigative interviews"

I’m not going to lie. I’ve been writing about the War on Terror in its depravity my whole adult life. And the brazen execution of Renee Nicole Good has left me in a state since the moment I watched it.
Before we go, I have to acknowledge the ICE summary execution of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. This 37-year old woman leaves behind a young child whose father has already passed away. Like many of you, I'm in a state of shock after watching the two different video angles of the final moments of her life. She posed no danger to ICE at all, they shot her through her windshield anyway, and then DHS Secretary Kristi Noem—in full contradiction of the video evidence—lied, saying that Good attempted to ram the officers. Supported by Donald Trump, she called it an act of terrorism. Well, there was an act of terrorism, and ICE committed it. Justice for Renee Nicole Good.

I am a simple person who thinks that telling the truth about things is important. I watched the video footage of this shooting, and the killing is casual and unhurried. DHS and aligned political actors are very ready to present a story of rushed, panicked violence, and it just is not true.

One thing I didn't fully appreciate until I sat on a jury and reviewed body cam footage for myself, is how cops yell contradictory instructions at people like "Don't move" "Put your hands up" "Get the fuck out of here" "Keep your hands where I can see them" etc. all screamed at your face with guns

Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis called her account “bullshit” in a news conference, describing the shooting instead as “an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.” Neither description of the encounter could be immediately verified independently. Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat whose congressional district includes the shooting scene, described the person who was killed as a “legal observer.”

Hours ago, the Supreme Court of the US declined to extend a stay on a court order for the paper to pay its journalists following the end of a 3-year strike.

Despite those efforts, the realities facing local journalism make continued cash losses at this scale no longer sustainable. Recent court decisions would require the Post-Gazette to operate under a 2014 labor contract that imposes on the Post-Gazette outdated and inflexible operational practices unsuited for today’s local journalism. We deeply regret the impact this decision will have on Pittsburgh and the surrounding region. DHS's first official statement is out, and they call the woman who was shot a domestic terrorist who they claim was trying to kill an ICE agent.

As a reminder, Tricia McLaughlin's post-shooting statements have been proven to be false MULTIPLE times in the past. They are simply not trustworthy.

Heller said she heard ICE agents telling the driver, a woman, to “get out of here.” “She was trying to turn around, and the ICE agent was in front of her car, and he pulled out a gun and put it right in — like, his midriff was on her bumper — and he reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times,” Heller said. Heller said it appeared the woman then accelerated and traveled about 100 feet before striking a utility pole and some other vehicles. She could be seen slumped over inside her car.
