Last time that I started seeing people suddenly declaring that no one should use Signal was right as organizing was really kicking off during Trump 1, and while I don't want to get conspiratorial, there are an awful lot of people who need to be less easily convinced by wrecker propaganda.
I'm not *opposed* to dialogue on secure messaging strategies, but it is INTENSELY pissing me off to see people who aren't actually on the ground telling others not to use Signal during a historic moment in which a VAST amount of vital organizing is taking place on...Signal.

This was just me making this comparison yesterday, but today the Korean news is calling Minnesota "America's Gwangju" and have human rights lawyers explaining how America is now living through the dictatorship Korea once had.
The Chun regime that my wife fought against in the 80s did the exact same thing. They needed a "crisis" that "only they could solve" to hoard more ill-gotten power, so they chose one city (Gwangju), declared its inhabitants enemies, sent trucks full of soldiers to violently attack and kill them.
