At an AI townhall a few weeks ago, an attendee asked about AI's env harms. The guy leading it said that the env footprint of AI is getting better, but the examples he gave involved unis buying newer computer equipment that used less energy. So, it wasn't AI that improved, just the physical materials.
Browsing articles on AI and environmental justice (across all disciplines). So many of them are like "how to use AI to achieve environmental justice," and totally miss the point that AI is the environmental injustice.

Many things have contributed to this terrible moment but perhaps chief among them is the historic cowardice of Thune, Johnson, and other Congressional Rs who have the power to stop the madness and refuse to use it on behalf of the American people. It is a Great Betrayal.

Treasury doesn't get to decide who gets a check and who doesn't. Those decisions are made by Congress. Treasury just writes the checks that a democratically elected Congress tells them to write.

May I suggest something radical? Have mercy on people. Even on here.

What’s happening is unprecedented, so politicians, journalists, public servants etc are doing their best to adjust. Not doing exactly what you think they should doesn’t mean they’re giving up or giving in.
