Over on Patreon, I’ve got some free content to read, as well as monthly essays, reviews, and never-before-published poetry. This would be a great time for your support, as our family has hit a rough patch!

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

She’s delightful! Such a fun evening.

Cal Newport’s book Slow Productivity talked about how important it can be to let creative projects take the time they need to develop (a lesson I’ve long been struggling with).

I wonder how many of us writers tend to think of inspiration as a force or being from outside us, like Kipling’s daemon?

Excellent event at @eveninghouse.bsky.social with @leannareneehieber.bsky.social! I’m excited to read America’s Most Gothic, and I’ll definitely head back to downtown Buffalo when I need a new read.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! Or I apologize for depressing you! Whichever fits!

It inspired an autumnal poem, so thank you for posting it!

It’s always so, so hard to say goodbye to a small friend.

I picked up The White Goddess a while back because (naively) I hoped it would talk about, you know, a goddess? The divine feminine? But it was . . . not that.

Let’s commit to sleeping until Saturday morning. It’ll be a tough stretch, but I think we’re capable (and exhausted).

Maybe we could just sleep in extra-long.

I may have wept a single crystalline tear of joy at the news.

Fifteen years ago or so, I got a fortune that said, “Avoid compulsively making things worse.”

That turned out to be good advice, but in the time since then, I realized that a whole lot of people needed that fortune cookie and didn’t get it.

Hey, @aliascelli.bsky.social, have you seen this?

A large mobile art installation dubbed the "Hangeul Truck," created by Korean artist Kang Ik-joong in collaboration with Samsung Electronics and the Korean Cultural Center New York, is seen on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

I made sweet and sour pork tonight, and my kitchen is a disaster. If we had a functional government, I’d probably qualify for federal disaster relief.

I have met so many amazing people thanks to social media. My horizons expanded greatly, which has led to me becoming much more open-minded. But I’ve put a lot of effort into curating my feeds and finding folks who are creative, thoughtful, and have interesting information to share.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

I just read Something About Living by Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, which was gorgeous and thought-provoking.

I just read Frankenstein for the first time this year, and the folks who are mad about Del Toro being true to the text are sending me.

Del toro: ~makes a heartfelt, true to Mary Shelly's vision Frankenstein film where the real monster is an indifferent creator horrified by his creation. He abandons it in a cold, unsympathetic world~

After a couple weeks of working on big projects, I realized I can write whatever I want tomorrow with no guidelines or guilt! (I mean, it’s good to have those big, important, deadline-adjacent projects, but I’m a poetry rebel at heart and my words want to be freeeeeee!)

Let’s not forget the moment of household silence that follows the ever-exciting exclamation, “Oh, shit! Whoops! Damn!” Bonus points if there’s an electrical sizzle in there as well.
