If you search TikTok for Hurricane Melissa videos right now, you'll see a flood of AI-generated and fake videos.

These AI videos include eye of the storm views from above, sharks swimming in floodwaters, huge waves battering towns, destroyed airports, and fake news reports.

I saw someone call Ai a Thneed and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a PERFECT analogy. The Thneed was an all-purpose tool that didn't do anything really useful. It was a fad that did major damage to the environment to make the Onceler a billionare. It left no real lasting impact, only damage.

Takaichi is willing to look stupid internationally for a performative Nobel endorsement for Trump and stands to curry trade talk favor with the U.S. But at some point you have to stand for some kind of morality beyond transactional politics. The world has taken a rightward lurch into darkness.

Life update: After 25 years, by doctor suggested that it might be time to end my taking antidepressant. I stopped seeing a psychiatrist four years ago, so this is the next big step in my mental health journey. Maybe I'll need to go back on them, but I'll never know if I don't try.
