A plug for my @hourstats.bsky.social bot. Every 30 minutes it posts a graph of how Bluesky has been feeling this last week and shows a sample of five popular new posts that you can explore.
"underscores safety concerns that Gov. Gavin Newsom voiced before Saturday’s event at Camp Pendleton."

Incredible that according to the NYT today Newsom voiced concerns, whereas a day or two ago the NYT was saying Newsom "traded jabs" with the White House.
You can't arrest me, I'm amerkin.
We should encourage Trump to re-enact this live. I'm sure it's safe to put an untrained octogenarian who doesn't know how to wear a mask in a jet full of faeces with a gold crown loose in the cabin.

Hold on. The crime here is stealing an erection.
The US is a bit more upbeat today than usual.

Those cops need to be charged for tampering with an erection
Caught and released a sacred kingfisher that was trapped in a cafe this morning. Feeling pretty virtuous.
Man running for mayor has not been mayor before. Critics say he should focus on developing a time machine.

True story: I had a field experiment that was just racking up brutal desk rejects from various political science journals so I used the formatting to make a Word doc look like LaTeX and it got accepted on my next try.

I figure the reviewers assumed a dude wrote it.
This is your periodic reminder that you can add coffee stains to your LaTeX documents.

Just a reminder that Wikipedia is the only remaining reliable source of information that right wing billionaires can't control. (Although they'll never stop trying.)

The mass layoffs of federal workers on Friday night swept up dozens of scientists with expertise in infectious diseases that have pandemic potential. But after The New York Times reported the dismissals, a federal health official said many of them had been fired in error and would be brought back.
Trump Administration Will Rehire Scores of Experts Fired in Error
Friday’s layoffs swept up scientists involved in responding to the measles outbreak and running an influential journal. An official acknowledged the mistakes on Saturday.

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
