Stop KOSA
KOSA is a censorship bill that won’t make kids safe. Instead, it'll put all internet users at risk, especially youth. If you believe in a free and open internet, tell your lawmakers to reject #KOSA!

This is an odd situation, and genuinely one worth reading about if you actually Do care about games as art

Because is there challenging, troubling imagery in the game? Sure, yes

Is any of it like- porn or whatever? No. Not even remotely. But this is why rulings against porn media hurt everyone.

as far as im concerned, any "study" claiming that actually humans dont REALLY fully mature until (insert ludicrous age) is purely meant to be used to manufacture consent once the govt decides they want to strip a right away

ex: how the whole "the brain doesnt mature until 25!" is used vs trans

Not Gonna Lie, folks. I am incredibly dubious in this day and age of any study that states 'you don't reach adulthood until X' considering how the 'full brain at 25' thing has been weaponized by both young and old to avoid responsibility and deny autonomy

Tell your electeds to oppose ALL "age verification" bills as these absolutely will be used to block minors from accessing queer content, even educational sites & helplines.
Next week the House E&C Committee is looking to run something of a shock and awe campaign, debating at least 19 bills that they say are related to "protecting kids online." Most of which are actually about censorship and control. Don't buy the framing. It's always the same damn thing.

i cannot say, but its in our best interest to get loud about the ones that threaten speech and privacy because otherwise, being complacent will almost guarantee they do pass

Hopefully none of the bills go anyway seeing that congress only have 3 weeks left after coming back. Either way we all need to puch back on the bills!

Time to pick up the phone and start calling your reps, and tell them to OPPOSE these problematic bills. None of these will actually do anything to protect children, but they will open the doors to more censorship!
ID'd the most problematic bills:
-RESET Act (doesn't mandate AV though)
-SCREEN Act (Broadest AV law)
-App Store Accountability Act (AV for App Stores)
-Sammy's Law (Surveillance on minors)
-Parents Over Platforms Act (AV for Apps)
-KOSA (especially if "Duty of Care" is maintained)

Some notes:
-Chronological and Search feeds are exempt
-1st amendment protected speech will not cause a platform to be liable
-Email services, messaging apps/services, corporate apps, commerce, music steaming services, review sites, news sites, etc. are exempt. It's mainly targeting social media.

Spoke to my source familiar with internal workings at Mastercard. The holiday call campaign re payment processor censorship is working, there is a lot of pressure being felt from your calls. This is resulting in increased response times at a core moment for Mastercard due to the holiday season
