THERE IS NO NEGOTIATING WITH NAZIS. Europe learned that the hard way in the late 1930s. Democrats were actually winning the battle for hearts and minds on this one. And here's the bitter reality: there is NO getting out of this without a huge amount of pain... 1/2

42 million families, including mine, will not have SNAP funding in 2 weeks. 🍽

I encourage those of you able to do so to donate what you can to local food banks, and those of you in need to look up when and where they operate.

There's no shame in needing food. ❤️‍🩹

40 yrs ago today, Bryan Adams gets his first #1 album with “Reckless” — featuring “Summer of ‘69”.

Originally titled “The Best Days Of My Life”, it helped Adams in his quest for a song about summer. “While we were doing the demo, I just threw in the lyric ‘It was the summer of ’69’ and it stuck.”

I have made an overview of the battle between XFG and NB.1.8.1 in the world

Samples collected on/after the 12th of May

NB.1.8.1 with a very high percentage in some SouthEast-Asian countries, and big in Oceania as well

XFG big in India/Pakistan/Bangladesh

Mixed in North America and Europe

9/ There is a new wave barreling right now in the US.
We just aren’t tracking it.
📉 No data.
😷 No masks.
📚 Taiwan just went remote after more than doubling Emergency Department cases last week from ~20K to >40K.
The virus hasn’t disappeared.
Only the infrastructure to warn us has.

Since we're thinking about Nimbus (NB.1.8.1), I thought I'd re-share a couple of Substack pieces.

How to be (and make others) sick less often
No one enjoys being sick, not even with a common cold -- let alone with a serious flu, stomach bug, or COVID. No one wants to make others sick either. Fortunately, we have tools to fight viruses.

Please take a few minutes to do this. I personally doubt it'll help sway the FDA, but give it a go...
You have three days, starting today, to leave a public comment with the FDA about, say, why COVID-19 boosters should remain available to everyone and also free. "Individual consumer" is the category you most likely want (unless you are one of the other categories; if so, choose that).

This is a sad but interesting question. How many grad students will leave and where, if anywhere will they go ?
Live here and am in grad school here. I have one class where 13 out of the 15 in it are leaving the state or country at end of semester.

That funding loss will really impact the summer where the population is half that so it’s about $2k per person.

The Office of Long COVID Research and Practice will close as soon as this week, according to an internal HHS email obtained by Inside Medicine.

This is the opposite of what you would do if you were genuinely interested in finding treatments for chronic diseases, as RFK claims.
