I am not a constitutional scholar but I am pretty sure “the president my personally levy taxes and choose what they fund” is not in fact what the founders intended

FYI, if you try to measure the strength of civil society (what Hahrie, Milan, and I call civic opportunity in our 2023 Nature Human Behaviour paper), you may want to consider using our org-, county-, and ZIP code-level datasets published in Scientific Data: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

President Macron told me The National Assembly keep eating his Prime Ministers so l asked how many Prime Ministers he has and he said
he just goes to the shelter and gets a new Prime Minister afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding Prime Ministers to The National Assembly and then his daughter started crying.

NEW: ICE purchased custom-made vans from a company called TechOps Specialty Vehicles (TOSV) that are equipped with fake cellphone towers designed to spy on phones.

TOSV president said the company integrates the cell-site simulators into their vans, but does not manufacture the surveillance tool.

The federal contract shows ICE spent $825,000 on vans equipped with “cell-site simulators” which allow the real-world location tracking of nearby phones and their owners.

Imagine someone started a group that combed through political donations and posted target lists of professors who donated to Republicans. Then, people used that target list to harass and threaten those professors. That group would probably not be welcome on campuses any longer and for good reason.

For the point I'm trying to make here, I guess the question is: does he think this is different than what he voted for? I can understand being frustrated with his vote choice and the motivation for it, but I was going for something slightly distinct here.

Also, oh no the holidays are approaching?

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

If you're in London or plan on visiting in the next few months, go see the Design & Disability exhibit at the V&A--it's absolutely phenomenal. The thought that went into it--from the tactile map and texture markers to its expansive understanding of what counts as design--is everywhere apparent.
A bright blue wooden chair against a light pink wall. White text on the bench reads "I need more time. rest here if you agree." wide shot of a museum exhibit room. The room is a bright aqua blue with various t-shirts, posters, and banners on the wall. A large quilt/banner at the wall reads "Disabled People Fight Back Nothing About Us Without us. A light wood seating area is in the center of the room. A mannequin posed wearing a black tshirt and baseball cap, khakis, and running shoes. They are wearing a sash with an iphone pinned to it and holding a megaphone. The piece illustrates proxy protesting--"an alternative method of engaging in traditional, site specific protests...[that] pairs one person who is onsite at a protest, with one person who is offsite...broadcasting them into that physical space" (text from proxyprotest.com) Another corner of the exhibit. A Giant brand bike belonging to the Gaza Sunbirds racing team is fixed high on the wall, while one of their jerseys is displayed in a clear case below.

Important point - announcements about "crackdowns" and "bans" are a way to try and convince people the state has power when it increasingly fails at basic tasks.

And the state is growing less and less effective at the same time. One relatively trivial example is fly-tipping. There are steep fines for it and rewards for those who turn in offenders. But the problem grows worse and worse in many places.

Everyone is trying to have a normal Saturday night and the president's top advisor is on X announcing that civil war is necessary
@StephenM on X: Legal insurrection. The President is the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, not an Oregon judge. Portland and Oregon law enforcement, at the direction of local leaders, have refused to aid ICE officers facing relentless terrorist assault and threats to life. (There are more local law enforcement officers in Oregon than there are guns and badges in the FBI nationwide). This is an organized terrorist attack on the federal government and its officers, and the deployment of troops is an absolute necessity to defend our personnel, our laws, our government, public order and the Republic itself.

The game in which the premise is "the odds are real but gamers struggle to conceptualize or even believe them" has negative reviews from gamers who don't believe the odds are real (game: Unfair Flips)
A 'Not Recommended' Steam review with 4 hours played

Review text reads: It's a decent idea for a game where you flip a coin and depending on your percentage chances you get heads or tails. However the odds are a lie. You will flip tails 100 percent more than you will heads no matter what your percentage is. Even when you get it up to 60% you will still flip tails way more often then you will heads.

The Dev can try to defend it, but when I flip the coin 2500 times and only hit heads a third of the time even when at 60% then the odds are broken or a lie. I've also watched gameplay and seen fellow players have the same flips so I know it isn't just me having bad luck.

Still not bad for $2, but I'm saying no because the game is coded against you instead of it being fully on chance and luck.
