Help I'm obsessed with Honda's new Motocompacto scooter. It can only go 12 miles. It maxes out at 15mph. It is the flat fish of scooters. Like all great art it compels me and disgusts me and I covet it.

i miss the comment sections of everyone's livejournal posts in 2010 for exactly this reason
The best writing I've done has been for an audience of about 30 people
Tbh I think everyone should put out fic/art that has no audience at least once in your life. It's not typically a COMFORTABLE experience, but it helps you wrest free of the tyranny of The Numbers. Make something you enjoy and don't let the response dictate in post how you felt about the process.

YOOOOO WE'RE GETTING THE TUMBLR TAG SYSTEM. MASSIVE W
hashtags are meant to be the solution for this. it might be more accurate to just call them tags. you'll be able to #inline them but that's more to link to them. the main usage will be outside of the post text in a separate field (where they're a little less intrusive)

I got laid off from the Daily Dot today! Eight years as a staff writer, but it comes for us all eventually.

If anyone has work for an experienced entertainment/geek culture/internet news writer, please let me know! Plus podcasting and video scripting of course.

I said this on Twitter and I'm saying this here too: Wearing a mask on transit, in stores, and in healthcare settings is literally the lowest hanging fruit that requires people to not change anything about their lives and yet even as covid cases soar people can't fucking do that.

ever listen to your rice cooker sing its finishing song, wonder for like five **full** minutes where you know that song from, and then realize, "oh, it's from the rice cooker. that's how i know it."? #amaryllis

The conduct described here is disgraceful, it’s is not the first story I’ve heard like this, and I genuinely hope Bill Willingham has cost Discovery millions of dollars by doing this. open.substack.com/pub/billwill...

Absolutely terrifying: state-funded researchers in Poland have developed the first-ever lab tests that can detect if a person has taken abortion pills, and prosecutors have used them to investigate pregnancy outcomes. The tests work for both mifepristone and misoprostol.
There Are Now Tests That Can Detect If Someone Took Abortion Pills
The chilling development comes out of Poland, where prosecutors have already used the tests to investigate pregnancy outcomes.

Hayao Miyazaki is tired. He longs to retire, to rest, to sit on a porch and watch the trees. Suddenly he has an unbidden idea for a poignant coming of age story set in a world of magic and whimsy. He groans and reluctantly starts drawing the world’s most beautiful cartoon

This is why masks and ventilation is paramount until we have vaccines that can actually prevent transmission or long covid. We need to limit our infections so badly
A reminder that while vaccines are important & you should stay up to date with them bc they protect you from hospitalization, they do not protect against long covid (yet - hopefully they will in the future).
A huge portion of the newcomers joining the Long Covid patient groups sound the same. Some version of: “I was fully vaccinated, physically fit & it was my ~3rd infection that got me. My doctor wants to send me to psych/yoga after my labs came back normal. I'm having a hard time keeping up at work.”

I urge everyone to do this -- even a short comment is valuable, it doesn't take long.
Friends, please do go comment about the CDC's Covid plans. They have pushed a completely inadequate vax-only solution, but now they’re about to *deny* boosters for most people and deny access to better vax (Novavax). It’s unconscionable. We need booster access for all and Novavax access for all.
