Sleep is a biological necessity, and sleep deprivation has real physical, psychological, and social consequences that need to be taken seriously. The way our society treats it as slothful to sleep according to natural rhythms (including midday naps and variant chronotypes like night owls) is evil.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Anybody in the Baltimore area got a smallish older car in decent repair that they want to sell to Mr E for pretty cheap?
Ginny, we love you, don't let the chemicals get you down. <3
(Tx tx, Dr. E. 🖤 I'll be back in Baltimore soon.)
Oh, surely. I've come close.

...Wait, do you mean on the delivering or the receiving side? In any case: Sending you strength.
Elected dems have been doing a whole lot of "the social contract should explicitly favor me and my donors, actually" in recent years. Well, for a long time, really. It continues to be a bad look!
*That* is one of my most hoped-for outcomes if Mamdani crushes this election—that it would prove that rhetoric like his, background like his (and like that of other, far less "traditional" candidates), community-forward messaging like his are POWERFUL AND VIABLE in electoral politics.

Worth occasionally mentioning again that the only immigration crisis in the United States is the severe dearth of immigration the country experiences, owing to absurdly difficult legal standards for immigration that none of our grandparents were held to. The country is empty.
SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS

Says the woman trying to help her low-income, chronically ill, elderly father get *anything* done.
tbh I don't think this is that niche but man we gotta make LIVING accessible for people who don't have smart phones and/or data. I'm talking bus schedules, restaurant menus, doing your laundry, accessing social security and unemployment, all of it. we goddamn GOTTA dude

If you have dollars to spare, can you kick Sydette some dollars? She's a good'n who is trying to do good things while in a really precarious financial position. I say this from extensive past experience—trying to stay afloat in NYC is *soul-destroyingly hard*.
Boosting again because if I could get enough to at least pay off my card that I used to fix my tooth before that mag ghosted me and not destroy my credit card would be awesome . In not gonna be able to keep teh apt but taht would be awesome
Welp it’s gotten real real if you can please help. If you can’t it’s really hard out here so share

The primary reason I still have *some* friends is that I'm basically able-bodied/not immunocompromised and I don't give a single shit if people think I'm weird, so I take the risk of doing some public/social things while masking, or hanging outside unmasked. Not everyone can take even those risks.
If you gave up masking long ago, you can start anytime. “But none of my friends do.” Think back: did some of your friends “just disappear” in 2021 and stop planning hang outs with you?
My partner worked on the Puppetry Track at DragonCon this year. He had to unmask for some things (performing! panels!) but masked absolutely everywhere he could. Other people in that circle got sick, and he didn't. Some of that is pure luck, but he gave good luck its *best possible shot*. It helps.
People seem to have a really tough time with that distinction.
And furthermore, if advocating for actual truth—and indeed the existence of facts—is a fundamental part of your job, as it should be for every politician and journalist, then FAILING AT THAT COMMUNICATION IS A DERELICTION OF DUTY. YOU'RE BAD AT YOUR JOB.

I'd say "Sorry for shouting," but I'm not.
I feel that I am being marketed to and in this case I am not sure that I mind.
There's a whole good thread leading up to this, but I'm reposting this last entry because, oof, yeah. (And yes let's keep pestering our dopey elected representatives in the House and Senate—encouraging spinal development and praising it wherever it appears. Shrinking Medicaid is disastrous.)
Anyway, come for the bird's eye view of what these cuts really mean, stay for "hand to hand combat" in statehouses over who gets money from the increasingly shrunken state budgets. Maybe you want to write to your governor. 😵‍💫

Medicaid — Unbreaking
How the administration is breaking the government, and what that means for all of us.

I show no signs of becoming filthy rich. It is possible that I will someday come into a modest amount of money due to partner's family. It will likely *all* be spent on elder care, because I am the only child of two low-income parents with health issues and also am not having kids. BUT IF. IF.
This is pathetic. On all sides.
Dem establishment really thinks all that AIPAC money can overcome two years of witnessing live footage of genocide and the Israeli government's explicit declarations of intent. They'll keep people who are already fully indoctrinated, but a bunch of regular folks have moved to "WTAF."
I have thought about it. My current situation (and likely future) are socially and familialy complex enough that it would have to be a setting with separate residences. No lie, if I were filthy rich I would buy an old small apartment building, do basic green reno, and invite people.
If you count yourself in the massive majority of people who pretty much don't want to hear about COVID anymore...please read this thread. I'm sorry. Please. I write this from my father's house, where I am watching Long COVID completely destroy the mind and body of a person I love beyond telling.
To say people make a rational assessment of the threat environment around Covid… is just not true.

Most people refuse to talk about or read anything about Covid.

Long Covid has surpassed asthma as the most common childhood illness, and it’s rarely spoken of.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)
