‘Possibly the most prolific sex offender in British history’: the inside story of the Medomsley scandal
At a youth detention centre in north-east England, the paedophile Neville Husband raped and assaulted countless boys. Why was his reign of terror allowed to go on – and why hasn’t there been a public ...

Even a pause in the killing and displacement would be good and I share the cautious optimism that this could end this phase of the catastrophe. But it is wild that people are treating this as if it’s the negotiated end of the Russo-Japanese War, or even Camp David 1978.

3. this is not the moment for an incredibly expensive increase in state surveillance infrastructure to be run for profit by private tech firms just before Labour ushers in an (even more) authoritarian right wing government.

At the core of transmisogyny is, inevitably, misogyny itself. The viciousness with which some people trash trans women for how they look, or their supposed artificiality, or perceived errors in their behaviour, comes from a fundamental loathing of any women who doesn’t conform to their expectations.
Graham Linehan once took issue with a sketch I did and tweeted about me referring to me not by name but only as to who my boyfriend was and called me an NPC ( non player character.) It was misogynistic and his “standing up for women” schtick is baloney.

Sally Rooney understands exactly what is required from someone of her profession and social standing in this moment. We've seen so much cowardice from so many quarters in recent times that it's almost a shock to be reminded what a person of conscience acting with true integrity looks like.

Israel is still needlessly and mercilessly killing Palestinians. Daily. Hourly. For no good reason except ethnic cleansing and displacement.
🔴 BREAKING: At least 11 people have been killed and over 100 wounded after Israeli forces once again opened fire and shelled civilians waiting for aid on Salah al-Din Street, near the Netzarim checkpoint and the GHF site in central Gaza.

The point is to create a world in which the authoritarians can simultaneously inhabit a position of victim and abuser, creating an imagined threat of persecution and violence in order to persecute and carry out violence.

This is how this always works. We cannot allow this to continue.

People love to call everything about Israel and the genocide in Gaza complicated. Stop doing that. It's actually extremely straightforward: Israel is committing genocide, the US is funding it and supplying the weapons. The companies on the BDS target list are financially and materially enabling it.

The step-up in anti-migrant rhetoric from the government is shameful and dangerous.

Migrants are our neighbours, friends and family.

To suggest that Britain risks becoming “an island of strangers” because of immigration mimics the scaremongering of the far-right.

This is hardly the most important thing in the absolute terrorising of trans women in Britain but every time I hear about how "men legally aren't allowed in women's toilets" I'm just like??? They are though. 1/

A ceasefire is a relief but it’s no justice for Gaza. Israel has murdered tens of thousands of people and left even more traumatised, disabled, and homeless. I can barely imagine what life will be like for Palestinians in the coming months and years. It’s more than any people should endure.

I'm reading news of an imminent ceasefire deal. I'm praying that the violence truly stops, that we don't see drawn-out death by another name. I pray that we all stay alert and awake regardless of what comes next.

None of us are free until Palestine is free and a ceasefire is not freedom.

All my mutuals here are picking different horrific quotes from this article. I think it's the headline that gets me. How have we reached a point where a government can use slang from heroin use to discuss a plan they have for schools and health and it just gets reported like nothing is wrong
