How are these things connected? We could use the Russian assets now and then some other money in two years. 🤷‍♂️
🇧🇪 Belgian PM: "If we use Russian assets to finance the war, then we also assume that the Russians will be exhausted in two years... A tsar like Putin can do everything: starve his people, lead them to the slaughter and organize genocide. But lose the war? He cannot do that."

Epic stupidity. Many people in the West may not know this, but Putin lies all the friggin time. Whether he is talking about the war, the economy, history, culture, whatever, he just makes up facts at random.
What is it that happens in their heads?

And I’m not even including the whole sex offender thing.

Like I wrote the other day, Putin was likely to have a phone call with Trump before Zelensky went to Mar-a-lago. And guess what happened? The meeting is not about “peace”. It’s an effort to get Zelensky to yield to demands that will allow Putin to pursue his aim of destroying Ukraine.

You never hear the Trump administration complain about Saudi Arabia, Russia, or China.

This is about bullying Europe, nothing more

This is accurate. Russia has succeeded very well in convincing media in Europe and the UK that the conflict is far more one-sided in Russia’s favour than is genuinely the case - and that contributes to the assumption that it should be settled in Russia’s favour sooner rather than later.
One of the frustrating aspects of Trump's 'peace' efforts is that he resides in an echo chamber that doesn't acknowledge the real difficulties that Russia is facing in continuing its war in Ukraine - and it is an echo chamber that influences media coverage, judging by the questions that I get asked!
Time is not working for Russia, and things will only get worse.

“Putin is very likely preparing to attempt to offset Russia’s near-exhaustion of voluntary recruitment in 2026 by mobilizing elements of Russia’s strategic reserve to sustain combat operations in Ukraine.”

Sort på hvidt: Trump-administrationen siger, at europæisk civilisation står over for udslettelse

In plain terms, the United States aligned itself with Russia against Ukraine and NATO. By transmitting Moscow’s surrender terms unedited and pressuring Kyiv to accept them, the Trump Regime effectively sided with Russia in the war and attempted to force Ukraine’s capitulation. It is betrayal.
Russia drafted a 28 point surrender plan, handed it to the Trump team, and the regime delivered it to Kyiv unedited, demanding Zelensky sign it by Thanksgiving or lose all US support. Trump and Vance then promoted the plan exactly as Russia wrote it, verbatim, on TV, online, and in person.

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

In my work, democracy isn’t a regime type. It’s the set of conditions that let a society check what’s true, argue about it, and hold power to account. When that system breaks, the label on the regime stops telling you anything useful.

Helpful reminder that both Kyiv and its European partners can safely ignore Trump's pushes for a bad peace deal.
Keep in mind that since this year, it is us Europeans who pay for all the aid to Ukraine. Nothing comes from the U.S since Trump became president. We even pay for the American weapons bought for Ukraine.
