So, hi. It’s been a bit.

Meanwhile, I’ve been doing some printable educational zines for various organizations & campaigns.

Here’s one about citizen-led ballot initiatives (or referendums), with some extra info specific to PA & Pittsburgh.

Originally for the Project for Responsive Democracy.

Something very very weird happened during the Hugos award ceremony... It's been on my mind for days, and so I wrote this blog: "When People Giggle at Your Name, or the 2025 Hugo Awards Incident"

So last night, Avi took over WRUW-FM’s long-running jazz program ‘Down By the Cuyahoga’ — hosted by his mentor Jim Szabo — and transformed it into ‘Down by the Monongahela’. Here’s his intro.

This summer it’ll be 10 (!!) years since my mom’s been gone.
We were only able to donate her corneas, because organ damage from radiation & cancer drugs.
And now, here I am a decade later, getting cornea transplants.

(No, not from her. Corneas are only viable for a week or so.)

@jeremytache.bsky.social Hey there, JerBear! Just caught up with this week’s Pitch Clock, and I’m wondering if you (and Samson maybe?) can address the elephant in the room for us poor maligned Pittsburgh fans: is there any chance in hell that ownership *won’t* botch things with Skenes??

@dilettanterypod.bsky.social I’ve been revisiting the pod this week, and I don’t think I ever overtly communicated how A+++ your voice & general aural presentation are in these episodes.

10 years ago a single bathroom bill passed in north carolina received so much pushback from all angles that the fucking NBA boycotted the state btw. that’s where we were then versus now. cool cool cool
Nancy Mace has introduced a federal bathroom ban which would ban trans people from bathrooms in DCA and Dulles airports, national park bathrooms, museum bathrooms, and all federal building bathrooms.

9) In the same spirit, understand and value the scale at which you can work. You know a language that detained kids at the border speak? Translate for them. You can offer to take care of your neighbor’s kids while they organize the local tenant’s union. Do it. It’s vital work.

8) Nobody needs a fucking hero. Just do something. Every day. Play to your strengths and do what you can. I am a researcher and have no delusions about being an organizer. But I produce work that is actionable and I deliver it to people who can use it. That’s all I can do and it’s enough.

We don’t study the Reconstruction era of US history nearly enough when I personally think we really REALLY need to.

I also honestly & truly think the reason we don’t is entirely by design.

I think it’s especially relevant in this current climate when you look at Andrew Johnson’s role cumulatively.
