Was visiting family this weekend. My kids are almost 5 (twins), my niece is almost 8.

She already knows that Santa ain’t real. However, now she gets to control the Elf on the Shelf, and was so excited to tell my kids that it had moved on its own.

She couldn’t wait to show them.
It ruled.
Do you have a story like this????? Share it with me please so that I can write a deeply meaningful piece about gifting the feeling of magic at Christmas <3
Seeing my older kids play along about Santa for my youngest, a good 3-4 years after they stopped believing, was really something. No one told them to; they just knew there was an unspoken agreement that we keep the magic going for believers. We always wrapped Santa gifts in the same wrapping too

Don't let a loathsome person rob you of your empathy.

Regardless of your tribe, you recognize what virtue looks like, and the abject lack of it.

I was checking to see if anyone had signed Murakami, opened BlueSky to see this, and my mind played an awful trick on me for a moment.

One of the great failures of contemporary political news coverage in a lot of media is the unspoken principle that no violation of norms or decency by Trump is really news, worthy of sustained attention, unless it also upsets people who love him. It isn't "not taking the bait"; it's sleepwalking.

The day it happens, nobody better be out here policing all the jokes and laughs we’re gonna get off. Understand?

The run that Rob Reiner went on between 1984 and 1992 is one of the most amazing hot streaks any director has ever had. Legendary stuff

A lot of people are mad that John Cena lost his final match and their reactions can be summed up thusly:

Until today, I thought Josh O’Connor was Jack O’Connell.

And, frankly, I bet you did too.

The anti-Semitic mass shooting in Australia will cause a national conversation and policy change. We know this because the 1996 Port Arthur massacre led to significant restrictions on guns.
The shooting at Brown will do nothing. We know this because it occurred on the anniversary of Sandy Hook.

I saw Air Force One in theaters. I was eight and the “get off my plane” moment was the first time I’d heard people cheer and applaud in a theater.

It’s great in retrospect but at the time I was like “I don’t think you’re supposed to do that.”
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
