Communities in Zambia have filed lawsuits seeking $80B in damages from Sino Metals after a February mining spill. Chinese social media is now openly debating the case.

I was delighted to speak alongside some of the foremost experts on China's climate developments in a webinar on the country's new NDC targets.

It's well worth a listen for anyone wondering how China can still be seen as a climate leader, despite the NDC's low-ball targets!

Delighted to speak with Zeyi about how China is fuelling a massive uptake of solar power across Africa
zeyiyang.bsky.social
For the first time in history, getting ⚡️ from solar is more economical than from fossil fuel. Customs data show African countries are buying record numbers of Chinese solar panels in 2025, both for utility projects and off-grid rooftop installations. This may change the future of affordable energy.
Africa Is Buying a Record Number of Chinese Solar Panels
Energy-starved countries on the continent have reluctantly turned to coal and gas for decades. Cheap Chinese solar panels are now finally changing the calculus.

NEW from me: Clean energy growth helped China’s CO2 emissions fall 1% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, extending a declining trend that started in March 2024. Power sector CO2 fell 3% as growth in solar power alone matched the rise in electricity demand.

NEW from us: Last year, China started construction on an estimated 95 gigawatts (GW) of new coal power capacity, enough to power the entire UK twice over.

We explain why China's still building new coal power plants, and when and how it might stop and begin phasing out.
