I say his gently, but…

There’s something unspeakably shameful The United States letting people go hungry.

Not because its government doesn’t fix it —

but because tomorrow a few private Americans could, and never notice the cost.

That’s the part that sits wrong.

Also, many of us didn't "smell" the fascism; we painstakingly researched & reported on the infrastructure of the growing anti-democratic movement, starting well before 2015 & with relative restraint. Some Very Serious Editors called us "shrill" and "resistance-y." newrepublic.com/article/2042...
The Americans Who Saw All This Coming—but Were Ignored and Maligned
Call them the Cassandras: the people—mostly not white and male—who smelled the fascism all over Trump from jump street. Why were they “alarmists,” and how did “anti-alarmism” become cool?

During my time as Ambassador, I was accused of "focusing too intensely on the issue of corruption." There's no such thing.

BLACK FARMERS AREN’T TAKING THE BAIT

Rejecting Trump’s bailout as structurally racist.

The $12 billion runs through the same USDA systems that systematically locked Black farmers out for decades. Loan denials, delayed paperwork, acreage rules, enrollment hurdles. The discrimination is documented.

I’ve learned a new history lesson—our US democracy is 60 years old. We didn’t really become a democracy until the Voting Rights Act became law. Now we see our foothold in 60 years of democracy slipping away. There is still time to claw it back and build on our boldest dreams for the common good.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act. The beginning of true democracy in America. A offering to this country paid for by the work, dedication and lives of ordinary Black people.

We’ve always had to fight. Are you prepared to fight to protect our rights?

GOP megabill littered with special tax breaks for venture capitalists, Alaskan fisheries, spaceports, private schools, rum makers and others — costing tens of billions of dollars. These are the same "pork" tax breaks R's scream when criticizing Democratic bills.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Note to media: Do not dismiss Trump’s references to God tonight as awkward pandering. If you do, you are missing a key part of what is driving these dangerous actions.
In a 4 minute address gloating over US bombing of Iran, President Trump made this statement:

This is Holy War language.
He was flanked by Hegseth, who has the Crusades motto “Deus vult” tattooed on his arm.
