Shelters that house unaccompanied minors are bracing for "Freaky Friday," the start of an ICE operation that will first issue letters to children, seeking to pressure them to return to the countries they've fled in exchange for a cash payment. If they decline, their parents will be targeted by ICE.

MPD & ICE are in lockstep because they are just different flavors of the same oppressive carceral system. That’s why there’s no abolish ICE without abolish the police.

The federal surge didn’t end in DC.

It became entrenched. ICE is still riding with MPD. We have “local control” back & people are still being detained & deported. National Guard is still here with long guns pacing our streets.

Small retailers (less than 2,000 square feet) are not required to collect/redeem containers under DC's bottle bill.

But they are allowed to opt-in and might want to - retailers are paid a generous handling fee!

Bottle Bill facts: How will this legislation impact small businesses?
Stores with under 2,000 sq ft devoted to the display of merchandise are exempted from the requirement to take back beverage containers (but those stores are allowed to opt-in if they want).

Grocers and other retailers that redeem beverage containers will be paid a generous handling fee per container to cover the cost of taking back, handling, and storing bottles and cans.

We should build the ten-foot sidewalk so students and others walking and rolling along Michigan Ave NE have enough space to walk safely and comfortably, _and_ we should take a lane out and build a real protected bikeway.

MPD Investigating Columbia Heights Fatal Pedestrian Crash

(Washington, D.C.) – The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Northwest.

On Friday, September 19, 2025, at approximately 8:48 a.m., Third District officers responded to the intersection of 13th Street and Harvard Street, Northwest, for the report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian. I spoke with five families in the D.C. region about what it's like raising trans kids in Trump's backyard.

They shared fears about being personally targeted by the federal government and their joys in raising kids that are learning to express themselves authentically in a difficult world.

MPD blocking ppl under 18 from entering Union Station. ICYMI, DC kids ride public transit free rather than school buses. Sooo not only are 🐷 assaulting them as they leave school, but they're actively preventing them from getting home.

Washington D. C.

FYI they're IDing people leaving union station saying no one under 18 can come upstairs

Multiple community members have written in this afternoon reporting that students under the age of 18 are not being allowed to enter Union Station as of today.

This may be connected to several altercations that took place yesterday inside and outside of the station. We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

MPD is having a fucking field day right now. They’re establishing the checkpoints we’re seeing. They’re rolling up at schools. The city’s encampment eviction team is bypassing local protocol & clearing camps with no notice.

The Feds opened the door & the city is happily joining in.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has praised the surge and reserved her criticisms for ICE wearing masks. But tonight at a local school it was MPD who pulled up their gaiter, put on gloves, and approached me masked.
