bluesky decentralization in action:

- user’s data is alive on their blacksky PDS, an indie server
- blacksky will deploy their own API server which will bring back the user to everyone else

I did it yesterday. It was an automated transfer process. I typed in my old account handle and my new one and ran it. It took about 20 minutes, then I signed back in with my new account name. Everything looks exactly like before.

If you're worried about having to migrate to a 'new app', it's not that. You're just moving your data away from bsky's servers to get away from their moderation rules, and people are doing this because of the recent TOS changes and the CEO's shit takes and crashouts.

Same app and it's still connected to bsky so you keep your follows/followers and all, but you're moving your data (posts etc.) to another server, which makes it fall under that server's moderation rules and TOS. Ppl are doing this since bsky has become increasingly hostile toward nsfw content etc.
