I started over in mid 2025. It has been quite the adventure, and I learned some stuff along the way, as I hadn't dated since, yes, forty years ago. A big difference? I am a trained social scientist!

We’re starting this season with a BANG! 💥

The Rideau Canal Skateway opens tomorrow, Wednesday December 31, at 8 am!

We’re in the home stretch of preparations to open a 3.4 km section between Somerset West and the Bank Street bridge. The Bank Street stairs will not be open for now.

Some Ottawa #cycling updates for December. #OttBike theft numbers from 2024 and the low recovery rate, a presentation in Almonte, a locally designed #bike mirror and a surprising YouTuber take on #Ottawa:

In 2018, we were lucky enough to have Rob Reiner join us on NNF. It was an honor and a joy. We’re rereleasing the episode to share the light and laughs he brought to us. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Reiner family. He was a true legend and a great human. Rest in peace, friend.

Thinking about this a lot as I watch my neighbours who use mobility aids navigate the icy ramps that are our sidewalks. They're plowed, sure, but it's the slope that gets you. Sloped for what?? Treacherous for the hundreds who walk here so a single car can comfortably cross once or twice per day.
Winter is one of the best times to educate people about car-centric policies because when it's snowy you can clearly see how little our cities care about anyone not traveling in a car. Even if you're not some activist, someone walking in winter can appreciate how much an unplowed sidewalk sucks.
This was a choice, not by the person walking but by the decision makers who refuse to prioritize them.

Good discussion between Usher and @robannan.bsky.social . Interesting was the concept of basic research funding as trickle-down economics.

Now, just wish Usher would finally get his facts correct on the proposed capstone organization (and what is this reference to "David Naylor's 2023 report"?)
