A new year’s wish that we all start framing paying taxes as positive and patriotic contribution to a better world for all. Thank you Anthony Joshua! I’ve just paid mine too. They were quite a lot less than yours, but for some reason most historians don’t earn £68.5m.
He isn't "losing" this money. This is called "paying tax like a responsible citizen and not hiding your money offshore" and we need to start recognising and applauding it.

As @sgoodyear.bsky.social so eloquently conveys, dependence on a functioning car to satisfy the needs of life is the antithesis of ‘freedom.’
🚗💥 What if life after cars is better for everyone?

In LIFE AFTER CARS, @sgoodyear.bsky.social of @thewaroncars.bsky.social shows how communities can thrive when we design for people, not traffic.

🤮

Why can't they just impose gun controls like a normal country?
Curved corridors to limit a shooter’s sight lines. Bullet-proof glass. Concrete “bump outs” in hallways to provide hiding places. This is the sad new architecture of American high schools. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXeM...

Coworker 1: What book?

Me, unsure how they’ll take it: Uhhh it’s called “Life After Cars: Freeing Ourselves from the Tyranny of the Automobile”

Coworker 1: God I wish we could do that.

Coworker 2: that book sounds rad.

British Churches Are Putting Their Faith in Heat Pumps
In many churches, often strapped for cash, the switch to a heat pump may be borne from necessity. Staff at St. Peter Mancroft Church in Norwich, which already had solar panels, opted to make the jump to a heat pump system when one of their old gas boilers failed. “The church decided this was a good time to try and commit to it,” says Nicholas Jackson, from architectural design firm Nicholas Vanburgh Ltd.

We have called for heat pump subsidies to be gradually reduced over time (crucially, in conjunction with action to make electricity cheaper, which does not seem to be happening).

But just knee-jerk abolishing the subsidy at the Budget would be up there with the great climate policy disasters

This is a stupendously stupid decision that would set the UK's energy transition (a policy which is supported by the majority of voters) back decades. MPs must not allow this to go through.

Maybe there should be a law requiring that car ads depict the typical amount of other car traffic that an average driver experiences in the country it is being shown in.
Car brand BYD's new SUV ad pokes fun at people walking and cycling, comparing them to Horse & Carts.

It joins a long list of car ads that sell a false promise of convenience and aspiration while punching down at sustainable transport modes.

So I made it a bit more realistic...

Right now the gov is subsidising tax breaks, when they could be using that tax to generate billions for public services.
