Penguins Softness Rating: Maybe other parts of them are soft, but their wings on my shins felt like being hit by 2x4s. Evil minded and smelling little bastards.

Every once in a while, I’ll stumble on a 100-year old comic and think “I wonder if the cartoonist ever would’ve guessed that, out of the 5,000 cartoons they drew in their life, THIS ONE would be read 100 years later?”

Anyway, I’d be OK with this one lasting 100 years. The joke would still work. :)

We go outside, so I can show the police the old plans in context. I look into the hole the workers dug. See the pavement blocks, the sand they laid them on, and below that, rich black dirt. I exclaim "Oh! That's graveyard dirt! I'd know it anywhere! That's well fed dirt, if you know what I mean."

A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

And so I say to the detectives "look, I know it's a weird question, but when you've confirmed they're old graveyard bones, not murder bones, can we have them back?"

And the detectives say "... We've never been asked that before..."

The US granted visas to Jews but only allowed 30,000 in from Germany a year. You had to wait for your number to come up.

Meet Robert Smallbones. An unassuming British diplomat who 'hacked' this system so effectively (saving 48 THOUSAND Jews) the UK government kept his scheme secret for decades /1 🧵

Every evening at this time of year the Screaming Tree Frogs gather around the rainwater on our neighbour's water tank to scream at each other.

(poor photos because low light, long distance, adn small aperture)

At the beach we found a seemingly injured penguin. Called Wildlife Victoria who told us to take it home and keep it somewhere dark and cool until they could get a volunteer out to collect it. So now there’s just a penguin sitting in the garage of this holiday house like this

So what's this story about? Kalsis Chiroptera (Kal to his non-existent friends) is a small time con artist sentenced to life in prison at the literal edge of the world. (For a crime that, let's be fair, he definitely did commit.)

4yrs ago today, we helped @catsprotection.bsky.social trap this tiny, hungry, limping feral kitty. He wasn't happy about staying in our spare room for a month after a vet visit.

But then he discovered duvets. And after we released him, i went for a nap. Woke up to discover he'd decided to move in.
