i know it's a stupid thing to complain about but it really makes me sad that distributors don't pair short films with features at all anymore.

Looking forward to a rewatch, but I think The Testament of Ann Lee *is* one of the best films of the year and I need that soundtrack bad

"Taken together, the first three films from pioneering feminist filmmaker Marleen Gorris form a scathing indictment of not just any particular society but the very idea of society, observed with the chilly detachment of someone who’s surprised that you’re surprised."
Community as a Curse: The Pulp Trilogy Of Marleen Gorris
In the early works of pioneering feminist filmmaker Marleen Gorris—A Question Of Silence, Broken Mirrors, and The Last Island—community is a curse.

Shakira’s (Gazelle) first performance in Zootopia 2 is one of the most spellbinding sequences I’ve seen in an American film this year

Is that enough for an FYC quote

Exactly what I was anticipating (and dreading) on happening: companies, whether they’re film distributors or publishers, partnering and investing directly with the line of AI corporations, making any friction with copyrighted work null and void
Disney and OpenAI sign a deal to bring 200+ Disney characters to Sora

Disney makes $1 billion investment in OpenAI and will become a "major" OpenAI customer

The library is how I watched movies in high school! Also check if your library system offers Kanopy!
“As prices for streaming subscriptions continue to soar and finding movies to watch, new and old, is becoming harder as the number of streaming services continues to grow, people are turning to the unexpected last stronghold of physical media: the public library.”

Pointing out (because when else would I get to show off this research) that about 533 U.S.–produced features, from both major studios and independents, were released into theaters in 1957. In 2017, there were 131 given wide release, including independents. It's astounding how output has shrunk.
