I love this history lesson. Thanks, Xavier

That slip is a relic from the bridge’s streetcar days: its wide turning radius geometry allowed trains to continue north to lower Albina. With no interurban making this movement anymore, there’s no reason to keep it open in 2025.

I say this as the resident slip lane closing guy.

Good morning! starting today’s council meeting with a pre-gavel from Councilor Novick. We sang This Land Is Your Land by Woody Guthrie!

Additionally, I saw that the slip lane at Larrabee is closed - probably for construction staging.

Can you work with @pbotinfo.bsky.social or @oregondot.bsky.social (not sure of jurisdiction) to keep the slip lane at Larrabee and Broadway closed permanently to vehicles?

I saw the Broadway bridge is closing for repairs.

Are you going to remove the jersey barriers on the west side of the bridge that are pinching the bike lane (at Lovejoy and Broadway)? This has been a severe annoyance on my commute

Readers respond: Cap Portland property tax for seniors - oregonlive.com share.google/QTbu7DyFi8ax...

Is this a real thing? I hear that there are lots of programs to defer taxes, etc. In the mean time there are some properties that are paying an incredibly low amount of taxes relative to neighbors

BYD sales in the UK up *880%* year on year.
waynevisser.bsky.social
This is what happens when you embrace the open market (used to be a thing, remember?). The UK chose not to impose tariffs on EV imports, unlike the EU and the US. And guess who benefits? The customers. Shocking! Scandalous! 😁

We also saw "pluralistic ignorance": MOST PEOPLE SUPPORTED NON-CAR TRAVEL, BUT THOUGHT THEY WERE THE MINORITY! 65-69% said they support non-car travel more than other people, which can't be true. Does the majority assume their own view is odd and so go quiet in debate, thus enabling loud minorities?
Part of a diagram showing some data from the UK. This shows, for example, how when discussing non-car travel, 65% of people thought their own level of support was higher than the public's support, and only 6% thought their own level of support for non-car travel was lower than the general public's support

Infill housing is climate action. More people need to live in the blue zones. Excellent to see @jasonthorne.bsky.social posting this; leaders, take note.

It's honestly bonkers that the Portland Streetcar doesn't have signal priority. It would instantly change the face of public transportation in Portland and likely be a fairly simple change.

Last week a building permit was issued for what I think is the first building to have taken advantage of Portland's new SDC waiver.

It's an 18 unit building at N Interstate and Bryant. 1/3 www.portlandmaps.com/detail/permi...

Of all the all-too-predictable “unprecedented” actions of the Trump Administration and its fascist allies, I did not have them accusing the Portland Police Bureau of anti-fascist sympathies on my 2025 bingo card.

If you think the military should be deployed into American cities because there’s the slightest tension at a protest, congratulations!

You are a fascist!

Lots of people want to hold fascist ideologies without realizing what they’ve become, but we have words to describe things and that’s what u are

Once in a while a critical mass of Portland—municipal/state government apparatuses, lawyers, advocates, protesters, media, businesses—can unite and tell the federal government, “I don’t remember asking you a goddamn thing!” in unison.
