More than a year in this has mostly gone as I feared, and in some ways has been worse. But there have been two contrasting surprises:

-- The speed and breadth of institutional capitulation

-- The courage, ferocity, and resolution of regular people

Our strength isn't our institutions. It's us.

Yes - until you see it firsthand, it’s hard to understand how upsetting and enraging it is to see these guys operate in your community. They are dressed for war, they beat civilians up, they openly antagonize neighbors, they’re masked, they carry people away. Everyone is livid at every scene.
This video clip also demonstrates that Alex Pretti was made very angry by the brutal, lawless violence of the DHS. That makes him just like me, and a large part of America.

Until he was shot 10 times in the back.

1/ This is terrifying to watch. Another warrantless search, another family brutalized by our government. But it's just one trauma inflicted on this family—many of which are US citizens—by the agents of the state, whose salaries we all pay

incredible reporting from @samanthamichaels.bsky.social
ICE has been authorizing officers to forcibly enter homes without judicial warrants—a reversal of longstanding guidance to protect people's constitutional rights.

Senior reporter @samanthamichaels.bsky.social spoke with a family in Memphis that experienced this.

Folks look at you like you're crazy when you say we're in the midst of the worst, most unprecedented Article I constitutional crisis in American history, & then the chairman of the <checks noter> Senate <Judiciary> Committee pleas ignorance of the law & constitution because of his agricultural past.
Suddenly republicans have forgotten what the constitution says 🤷🏼 🇺🇸

A major newspaper publishing guide to help people identify the munitions their government is using against them is a real "Late Republic America" timepeice that future historians will comment on.
Here's how to identify some crowd control munitions, canisters of which federal agents have left on the ground after deploying them against people in Minnesota. bit.ly/3YWp1jE

This is 100% FALSE. Immigration judges do NOT play any role in issuing administrative warrants. They are generated and signed by ICE officers themselves. ICE’s own training materials say they can’t be used for a search of a home!

Here’s a blank warrant form. Note who signs it.

It’s not news to the 3 people who will read this but: anyone who, on a Monday, tries to downplay the immensity of the damage being done to the U.S. — or the depraved pain our government is gleefully inflicting — inevitably winds up looking like a foolish child by noon Tuesday.
🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

Government so small it fits in the jetbridge of your flight and forces you to agree to a warrantless facial scan or be removed from the flight.
New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

Just a run of the mill “Kavanaugh indiscriminate pepper spraying of bystanders.”
This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

Correction: a classic “Kavanaugh Forcible Home Invasion, Gun to the Daughter-in-Law’s Head, Kidnapping at Gunpoint”. Apologies.

Nothing to see here folks, just a run of the mill “Kavanaugh Home Invasion and Kidnapping at Gunpoint”
Sunday, at least 7 ICE agents stormed a house and took an elderly man out into the freezing cold, wearing only his underwear and a blanket.

He was a member of the Hmong community, which came to the area from Laos in the 1970s after siding with the US in the Vietnam War.
