#TIL that @drewscanlon.bsky.social is the blinking white guy and not ice dancer Charlie White 🤣. In my defense, I’m pretty sure I first saw this gif in ice-skating meme circles back in the day.

But hey, he also bikes around the Bay! And is raising money to fight MS.
Hi Internet! I'm Drew and THIS IS MY FACE.

If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!

Cory Booker has just broken Strom Thurmond's record for longest Senate filibuster ever, which stood for 68 years.

Thurmond set it objecting to the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

Booker set it arguing against authoritarianism.

May Strom's name be forgotten and his memory erased.

A very old Soviet joke, from an especially dark time:

Foxes are fleeing the USSR in droves.
Q: Why are you running away?
Fox: The Soviets passed a new law that they’re going to arrest all camels.
Q: But you’re foxes!
Fox: Yeah, why don’t *you* try proving to the NKVD that you’re not a camel.
If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

Once again, one of the ways to understand what's going on right now is that the Federal government is doing LibsofTikTok stuff, finding individual posts they don't like and deciding that the person who said it needs to be punished.
A stunning assault on the First Amendment

Before Rubio's confirmation, senators and pundits acted as though he was a "sane," "rational," "normal," "moderate" nominee. He's constantly showing himself to be a right-wing extremist.

Hey Californians, time to support trans kids here at home; call your assembly members and tell them NO on AB 89.
according to the article, california’s own anti trans sports bill hearing is set for 04/01/2025.

the bill is AB 89.

if you’re in CA, you obviously can’t trust democrats to do the right thing without some persuasion.

& in case you’re wondering, yes, gavin newsom’s podcast *is* mentioned. 🧵

I want us to study the history of resistance to slave catchers right now. I want us to study how slave catchers worked, how they were sanctioned, who paid them, and why they did what they did, right now. I want us to study the hyperlocal and networked ways slave catchers were impeded. Right now.

A President who disregards Congressional appropriations unifying all federal payments under a single department run by his appointees alone would have total control of the federal purse, capable of punishing or rewarding individuals at will.

"Anti-constitutional," as @jamellebouie.net says.
Holy shit.

www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

He's actually doing it. Consolidating all payments under the Tsy.

Not to toot my own horn too much, but this is exactly what my paper is trying to address and oppose.

We need a strong digital fisc vision to counter this.

This EO is horrific and unconstitutional and the fact that it does not include a birth certificate as proof of US citizenship is a pretty strong signal about what they think of as the future for birthright citizenship.
