For the longest time I played the ps1 version vsav, which makes it really interesting when it comes up in casual conversation about how bad of a port it is because that was my only exposure to it for like 2 years so it has a soft spot for me lol.
In general, it will strongly benefit you to experience art the "wrong" way from time to time. Watch a sequel first, read the funky scanlation, play the shitty port. See what you get out if it, and how that differs from what people normally get out of it.
